Some people are upset about Tulane's fake kneel

I remember when people were all up in arms because Greg Schiano had his teams blowing up these victory formations. If the “unwritten rule” is the game is over in victory formation, then this is bullshite. And any team playing Tulane is well within their rights to blow this up
More assorted tweets like that but generally the same sentiment. They're just being salty, right? Don't stop playing until the clock says 0:00. Obviously if they're kneeling while up 3 TDs then don't blow their line up, but this was different.

Tie ball game is vastly different than down or up in victory formation.

Legit link of some people being upset.

Stupidest thing ever. Sorry but that’s on Houston’s Defense. Never assume anything. Play until it hits 0.

There's a point between blowing up the line and standing around like a statue.
Also this.

Maybe it's NFL only. I thought you couldn't fake kneel? I know you can fake spike.

Why do they call it a fake kneel. They were in victory formation, but he never faked a kneel. He faked a run one way and the running back went the other way.

This will be unpopular, but I see where critics are coming from. They lined up in a victory formation, and it is an unwritten rule to not blow that up.
I've seen fights over defenses hitting blockers in the victory formation. That's a bad spot for Houston. If they play normally and it's a kneel, they'll be looked at as a-holes. If it's a running play, they're off guard.

As others have brought up. There are two major factors here that people shouldn't get butthurt about.
1. The game was tied. You need to be ready for anything. I guess it's technically called the "Victory" formation, but they weren't lining up to kneel to win.
2. They never faked the kneel. That would be bush league, but they didn't do that.

We're supposed to be lectured on ethics by fans of a program that gave us Briles, Sumlin and Herman?
Yeah...maybe you would have won if you didn't quit and decide to have a dance party after your QB set a record nobody cares about in the 2nd quarter.

The objection, as I understand it, is it uses the opponent's sense of fair play against them. While I understand that, I don't necessarily agree. Tulane didn't score on that play. If Houston makes a play on the pass, it ends up just being a curiosity.

It wasn't a situation in which you take a knee. It was a tie game, with a timeout, with time on the clock and good field position. Defense needs to be more aware.

I kinda agree. I have no problem with the play as long as they have no problem with a team going 100% against it until the whistle blows

Why would Tulane take a knee there? It makes no sense you have to be looking for stuff like that in that situation

you play to win the games

That’s on Houston’s coaches for their defense not being on guard when the score was tied, regardless of formation.
You can’t just assume they’re kneeling and going to OT.
Also, “fake knee” is misleading, since it was really a variation of the fumblerooskie.

The real lesson to be learned here is that coaches are usually stupid to just kneel the ball out and accepting going into overtime.
They are so scared of making a mistake they are robbing their team of an opportunity to win in regulation.
Most of the time your chances of scoring are higher than making a mistake.
