Vegas seems to know that air raid defenses are all the same. It looked like any other Big 12 game.

..if defense wasn’t terrible we beat the crap out of Texas

I truly believe if the refs had called just half of the holding offenses that took place on the LOS, the score would not have been this close.

The fact that our defense got worked over last night doesn’t concern me as much as how our lines didn’t look great. Both offense and defense

Burrow couldn’t commend the offensive line high enough for their play last night with all the the zone blitzing and the amount of time he was afforded basically most of the night. Did you happen to look at the offensive numbers from last night before you started bitching about something just to bitch?

As far as the defensive line goes, Fehoko goes down early, Lawrence goes down fairly early, Shelvin goes down after a half and no Ika to back him up as he was already injured and our other starting DE Logan goes down in the second half. The D Line played with a MASH Unit and straight backups for half the game. If Delpit wraps up and makes the tackle for loss instead of allowing another 10+ yards ATC, they have a 3rd and 16 instead of 3rd and 6 on that long arse 19 play drive that wore out the defense on a TURF field which is 30-40 degrees hotter than in the stands.

I said the entire week that I am not talking shite about DBU, LSU beating the shite out of them, trash talking or any of that. I legit said ANY win under these conditions is a win that you take and run with it. Make adjustments and have a lot to drill into them on tell the truth Monday.

I actually watched the game, so I could see the talent and athleticism that Texas put out there. I could see Ehlinger's toughness and the accuracy of his arm.

It's also funny that people don't understand how this works. When Les Miles LSU teams would methodically control the ball and the time of possession, we would have great defenses and the other team would get gassed and we'd be able to dominate the fourth quarter. Now, we have a quick-strike offense and Texas had a drive that took half the 3rd quarter. Of course, our defense is going to get gassed.

I still think that conditioning and the lack of IV, etc. was a problem, but our defense showed its talent in the first half of that game, against a very good offense.

Later in the season, when we have Ed Ingram back on the OL, and when Emery knows that playbook, we'll have a better running game, and we'll be able to control the clock, and that will help our defense. You'll see.

LSU
Alabama
Clemson
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Georgia
Auburn (if for no other reason than their defense, and Texas' lack, thereof)
Wisconsin
Oregon, even though I thought they were overrated going into the Auburn game.
Even Penn State, again mainly because of their defense.

Texas is better than Auburn, Oregon, Penn state, and possibly Oklahoma and Ohio state as well.

I agree Texas was no panzy. Dudes came to play. They'll come back from this loss. A lot of football ahead.

I love it.

Last night’s defensive performance grades put a D. The goal line stands keep it from being an F. Convince me I am wrong.

Texas is a playoff team. Their running backs were all hurt and their corners are young. That wont be the case in January. I wouldn't want to play them again.

I’m pretty confident Texas will be a sure fire playoff team next year and likely the year after that. They are young across the board and they only had a handful of returning starters from last season

So are we supposed to just suck on defense when we play any offense with a pulse?

Bama and Georgia’s defense both suck when they play high powered offenses
The game has changed and people need to accept it
Should we have played better defense yes but expecting to just shut down Texas’ offense is unrealistic

Considering that this was the first top 10 win on the road for the LSU program in history, I’m fine giving the defense a pass. LSU was 0-11 against top 10 teams on the road before last night.

The D will turn it around at home.

This can't be right, we beat bama on the road in 2011.

I'm sure we've beaten other top 10 teams not at home. Just the game of the century pops in my head immediately.

man, are you joking? you can't go by anything on here, esp. regarding how much we are going to beat our next opponent. remember the Wisconsin game? some of our fans are over the top in the early season; ditto with other teams fans also. it's the optimism overload before the season really starts. happens every single year and has for as long as I remember.

Ask the 2011 defense if they “sucked” for giving up 27 to Oregon, 21 to West Virginia and 21 to Bama (a team that didn’t have a great offense that year).

No defense ever has been able to stop every team all the time.

And they did in the first half.

After we went up 20 to 7 I think the defense got overconfident. Add that to the fact that they apparently didn’t hydrate properly at halftime for some stupid reason paired with that extended long drive Texas put together right out of the half and you get what we had happen.
