That's enough to make Billie Joe McAllister jump off the Pelahatchie Bridge.

I am not familiar with the area but after extensive research (2 minutes) the little town of Pelahatchie (typo) almost an anomaly in an increasingly Republican county (Rankin). A

I knew the previous mayor through the Rolling Bulldogs rv group. I know a lot screwy stuff went down with the election when Knox moved away briefly and didn't seek reelection, but I am not sure that she is completely the problem. I think it is small town politics at its worst. It will take Shad White getting to the bottom of it to straighten out.
You are right. This mayor hasn't made any friends, but its not all her fault.
Shad White (state auditor for those outside MS) has reportedly completed his investigation. Multiple people on both sides of this my be facing some serious issues if $2 million is indeed missing.

One of the funniest and saddest things I have heard. The bright side is this is how America is supposed to work don’t like one Mayor vote in another when that goes horribly try again. I bet they don’t make the same mistake again atleast for a while.

Yes. It is in the dead center of one of the most conservative counties in Mississippi.
Population is 1,545
99% of population speaks English as first language
62% White, 37% Black, 1% Asian
As another poster said,, there was reportedly some screwy things going on with the election.

Wow, that's some third-world, banana republic shite right there. Almost unbelievable, if not for today's political climate.
No that is worst than third world shite. I have lived in the third world and the organized crime that runs the third world makes sure that the idiot leaders make sure people get paid.

There's that much money to steal in little Mississippi towns?
I wonder if Tchula or Mound Bayou need a new mayor?
The former mayor of St. Joseph La stole millions but he was lucky and died of a heartache before he could be indicted. Then the f**king current governor of La gave the eulogy at his funeral.

Per link mayor has been on the job 2 years and has only 26 employees
It’s hard to see how 2 million is now unaccounted for.
That has to be a huge part of that town’s budget of 1,500 residents. Sometimes those “losses” accumulate slowly and not until a proper audit is done does underwear get revealed

A black town clerk was fired by a white mayor. The town clerk yelled racism. The town clerk's niece ran for mayor using her aunt's address in this town of 1500, while she has homestead in Jackson. The niece wins the election. This happened a couple years back. She immediately comes in, starts firing everyone that did her family wrong, changes the locks on city hall, etc. The city council responds by docking her pay to $200 per month. She's pissed and she goes rogue. Someone left some twine on a door handle and she said it was a noose and called for a federal investigation. So here is where we are. The mayor is refusing to sign checks. Employees have not been paid. The electric company showed up to turn off electricity to the water pumps (a councilman negotiated a couple extra weeks, as this would turn off water to two schools and every home). Today was the third payday that city employees have missed. The U.S. Department of Labor showed up and she refused to meet with them. The place chief got into a yelling match in the street with her this morning (video in link). He apologized, but you have to feel for his frustration at his employees not getting paid. There was a special meeting called tonight to finally explore the fact that this mayor does not live in the city (nor the county) that she is the mayor of. The meeting was canceled presumably, because of all of the media attention.

Not just Mississippi but Pelahatchie, Mississippi. Good lord.

I watched her campaign commercial.
Almost all candidates have the obligatory family shot at the end of commercials. So did she. And, in a monument to stereotypes, not an adult male in sight.

Time to move from Pelahatchie to Waxahachie.

quote:I could be wrong but I don't think it's unaccounted for. That's probably their entire annual budget. I think the issue is claims of misappropriation in that someone not authorized to spend it, paid the bills, salaries, etc., for the town. Now, it's a gridlock. Maybe a few dollars were pilfered but I can't imagine this town has much more than that to spend in a year. There are drug forfeiture funds that have been "misspent" but not stolen.

Rita Crundwell stole $54 million from the city of Dixon, IL. A town with an annual budget of $6 million dollars.
