Latest News Story: LINK
What a mess.
A black town clerk was fired by a white mayor. The town clerk yelled racism. The town clerk's niece ran for mayor using her aunt's address in this town of 1500, while she has homestead in Jackson.
The niece wins the election. This happened a couple years back. She immediately comes in, starts firing everyone that did her family wrong, changes the locks on city hall, etc.
The city council responds by docking her pay to $200 per month. She's pissed and she goes rogue. Someone left some twine on a door handle and she said it was a noose and called for a federal investigation.
So here is where we are. The mayor is refusing to sign checks. Employees have not been paid. The electric company showed up to turn off electricity to the water pumps (a councilman negotiated a couple extra weeks, as this would turn off water to two schools and every home). Today was the third payday that city employees have missed. The U.S. Department of Labor showed up and she refused to meet with them.
The place chief got into a yelling match in the street with her this morning (video in link). He apologized, but you have to feel for his frustration at his employees not getting paid.
There was a special meeting called tonight to finally explore the fact that this mayor does not live in the city (nor the county) that she is the mayor of. The meeting was canceled presumably, because of all of the media attention.

Yea I was figuring this is why she won't sign checks. She's been stealing the money

The previous mayor was good as far as small town mayors go. Pelahatchie was the first town in Mississippi with broadband internet access. He did things like that.
But he was the ultimate sinner. He was a white man.
This is a comment on one of the local stories that makes sense:
Three people are authorized to sign checks. Two people have to sign. Margie (councilwoman), mayor and city clerk. There is no clerk currently and Margie signed them. Mayor has been told by her private counsel not to sign 1) bc of her bond and 2) bc it will essentially disqualify her lawsuit against the board about who has power to sign checks. The board has gone to the bank to add additional aldermen to the account but the bank wants an audit. And no auditors will touch it with a ten foot pole bc of the OSA stuff.

The only question is, when does Mayor Ryshonda Beechem officially become the Dem nominee for President?
She checks all the boxes. Stacey Abrams, eat your heart out.

Wow, that's some third-world, banana republic shite right there. Almost unbelievable, if not for today's political climate.
I thank God every day that I wake up in rural Oklahoma.

Lay it out using an alter that you can afford to part with.

I wonder how many of those city employees voted for her.

quote:I knew the previous mayor through the Rolling Bulldogs rv group. I know a lot screwy stuff went down with the election when Knox moved away briefly and didn't seek reelection, but I am not sure that she is completely the problem. I think it is small town politics at its worst. It will take Shad White getting to the bottom of it to straighten out.
