Holy shite I’ve never seen a team on paper have a better future immediately after trading their all pro player like the Pels do now.

Kinda a loaded question cuz we still have to wait on Zion but the rest of the roster is so much better for it. Anthony Davis requesting a trade could end being the best thing to ever happen to New Orleans basketball.

Absolutely.

Went from having 5-6 legit NBA players to 10-12.

We only have 4 players off last years team unless I’m missing someone. Jrue, Jackson, Okafor, Moore (Wood too but doesn’t really count since he came late). We literally have a new team

Zion could turn out to be a bust and I think we would still be better off. I live in BR and went to one pels game last year. Let me just say it was downright abysmal....

and we still won. Don’t ask me how that happened.

Personally, I’ve never been so giddy for basketball season to start, even when weve looked like we’d be good.

Seems unfair to have to wait so long.

There is this giant Lakers/Kawhi cloud looming over the entire situation. There is one more domino to drop and it’s a huge one for the league and an absolutely massive one for the Pelicans considering the future assets we control.

The AD Pels had hit their ceiling of just another playoff team so cashing him in has allowed for a rebalance both in the roster and in the present vs. future assets. That being said, the lottery was HUGE for the Pels this year, both us winning #1 and the Lakers winning #4. Put those picks back to #8 and #11 and things aren't nearly as positive.

I don’t think Kawhi going really affects the second draft pick at all. He’s only going to sign a four year deal and we can push the second pick to 5 years out if we want.

He’s also be 32 then, and he’s already requiring load management at 28.

The pick swap for 2023? Yeah not ideal. But that was always a Hail Mary. And you’re still talking a 38 year old Lebron, maybe retired, and a 31 year old Leonard, who again already requires load management.

2021 will get pushed back to 2022. Even if that pick is mid-20’s, if it ends up being the double draft like we think then picks in the mid-20’s will get you a player than would be a lottery pick almost every other year.

That's the huge thing in my head " load management" legit impossible for Kawhi to get that with aging Lebron and minimum players. Team would be sick short term tho

It's one of the best arguments against him going to LAL. Are they going to give him the 2nd night off in back-to-backs? How's that going to fly with LeBron and AD? Are all three going to rest and have the Lakers lose 150-60 in those games?

Even if Kawhi signs with the Lakers, it will be a 1 and 1, so that he can sign a big contract at his 10 year mark.

This roster sucked, of course they were better off. It’s nice to have assets & someone with an actual plan to max out said assets. Just can’t believe he didn’t fire Gentry

Given the turnover and the general belief of fans from other teams as of today, this seems like it will be a textbook example for how to do a complete rebuild of a team losing a high end star.

Rape the Lakers
Trade and trade again to keep building assets and dump bad contracts
Sign a Euro cheap
Sign a veteran shooter to address spacing
Trade pennies for a great defensive big

Versus signing him to the max? We'll see. No reason to believe that Griffin wouldn't have assembled a great team around Jrue, Zion and AD.
I think it boils down to Ball and Hayes. Ingram is a FA after this season. the other Laker picks won't be great but they are assets and the Pels have a lot of them.

Regardless the Pels did great job moving AD, because most teams in that situation get fleeced. And it looks like they could be a 45ish win team this upcoming season, early in the rebuild.

Since having AD, 7 years, going to the playoffs twice, and having no upward trajectory to go with it. Losing AD wasn't going to make the franchise worse off anyway. It's not like AD was CP3.
