The cousin of a man shot and killed by an off-duty police officer in a California Costco says his relative was nonverbal and couldn't have started the argument that allegedly led to the shooting, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
Police said the victim, identified by the Corona Police Department as 32-year-old Kenneth French of Riverside, assaulted an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer in an unprovoked attack before the shooting.
The officer, who was reportedly holding a young child while shopping with his family when French allegedly attacked him, shot and killed French and also shot two members of French's family, police said.
Corona police Lt. Jeff Edwards told reporters just after the incident that police believe the shooting resulted from an argument.
"From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside," Edwards said. "Some type of argument and ensued into a gun shot."

Shureih also told the newspaper that the family members who were shot were the victim's parents,

Inside a Costco should be relatively straightforward. There would presumably be security footage.

Were the parents non-verbal as well? Because they were shot also.
Seems maybe the parents could have gotten involved and the nonverbal son was just part of the fight?

You don’t know what that guy told the cop through sign language though

This doesn't sound good..

Gotta be more to this
A cop is just gonna shoot a guy in costco just because?

That intellectually challenged kid ate all the sausage samples. It was either wait 20 minutes for fresh samples or shoot the kid.

How come everybody gets mad at cops now. We should be thanking them for shooting people

Not saying the cop was right or wrong, if you’ve never been around mentally disabled people ( whatever the name for it now is) things you’d do to normal folks don’t work. Talking, explaining, most don’t comprehend. Sad but when the footage is released then I’ll form a opinion.

This does not compute

I'll hold judgement until I read a non CNN and/or non Fox article.

Trashy cop violates a citizens 5th Amendment rights and executes said citizen without a trail? What else is new?

Not sure about the photo below. The witness statements I read said the attacker had a Mohawk haircut. Is that type of style what most “nonverbals” choose? Or will this be one of those deals where the media releases a years old photo that shows an Angel when all of the current photo show a thug?

frick the media and frick you too for this bullshite, half assed attempt at an eye catching, fake news arse headline...
Why the frick is THIS the headline:
when THIS is what actually happened:

Pretty shitty scenario all around. Cop is forced to protect his child, who he is holding, when he is attacked. Now has to live with the fact that he shot somebody who was mentally disabled and his family had to witness that first hand. With the mentally disabled guy's intellectual level, something like this could have been a normal reaction when you have the IQ of a child. I assume the parents tried to stop their son, but got in the way as the cop just shot, at close range, while being attacked. They now have to live without a son.

What a sad situation.
Parents of nonverbal/aggressive autistic children live in daily fear that their child will do something that is perceived by others in the wrong way and lead to social ostracizing at best and a physical confrontation at worst.
I bet the cop was in his own bubble shopping with his family and the autistic "kid" had some sort of interaction with them that he perceived as threatening. Due to his training and natural paranoia that comes with being a cop in a liberal gun/cop hating area he was quick to pull his weapon.
The parents of the autistic "kid" probably witnessed it all unfold, seeing their worst nightmare of the last 20 years come true before their eyes. They likely were screaming at the cop (who at the time appeared as just a dude at Costco waving a gun around, aka a lunatic) and possibly even tried to physically prevent him from killing their son.
Off duty cop meanwhile is fearful for his family and sees a bunch of brown skinned people yelling and screaming at him, so he shoots them all.
Sad outcome for all involved.

It's a pretty terrible headline, but I've actually had a physical altercation with a mentally disabled person before. Sometimes they just don't think like other humans do, so sometimes horse play (in my case the guy put me in a headlock from behind) just doesn't translate.
