Because people got their hopes up by only believing news reports that were positive for this team when in reality they had very little chance of happening.

For example

"12 teams are said to have put in calls for AD"

or

"Danny Ainge is super determined to use any asset to get AD"

or

"Since Kawhi brought a championship, more teams will put in offers!"

or

"Durant getting hurt is good for the Pelicans"

and many many more.

You guys let over-emotional fans (see: n fanatics ) dictate the information and opinions you received, making your expectations out of this world

I agree with this, did we want the Lakers to be the trade partner, NO. Did we want AD to get his way, NO.

BUT, we could have sat on him for a year and got much less or nothing.

Key for me is that the 2 picks are not protected.

Don't worry guys, AD will probably play half the season again and again and again.

That's the best part of it. Sure I'd have loved Beal/Tatum but that was never realistic. What we need the most is to have valuable assets when Zion is ready to contend for MVPs. This trade delivers future assets as much as any option out there. Only the Knicks were close in offering future assets, but the Lakers present assets were way better than the Knicks.

ditto, we were lucky AD even said he wanted out, if he played another year and never said anything we would have had nothing.

This. Why are people pretending that 1 year of AD is worth more than Ball, Ingram, #4, and two more 1sts. Los Angeles could've signed him in a year without giving up any of that.

I mean, AD could be worth that to the Lakers if they win a title this year, but for us? Are you kidding? This sets up the Pels for a decade of dominance.

Honestly, im upset we dont have Tatum. Once i get over the initial "frick LA" its fine.

Still dont think we are done and people that want Griffin fired over this are ridiculous.

Only dumb fans would want to rush the build again after seeing how that just worked out.

the Pelicans have a history of being injury prone. Now we trade for a guy who missed 40% the games in his first two years in the league due to a variety of injuries, another one with blood clot issues which may or may not have serious future ramifications, and another one who missed the end of the 2018-19 season just having knee surgery. The 3 first round picks sound better than they really are because the 2 after this year are going to be very late in the 1st round.

I do like the trad in theory though if all these injury issues turn out to be non issues

Hart is going to Thrive in Gentry's system. Fits him extremely well and hides his weaknesses.
