Can someone tell me why I have double digits downvotes for this comment? Do people not actually agree with this assessment? He was a guy who was thought to be a budding all-american before the season who batted .286.
Because who’s at which position in the OF actually matters more than you want it to.

Oh okay. That's fine. The different between Cabrera/Duplantis in RF/LF is way less impactful on the team's success as opposed to Cabrera hitting .336+ as opposed to .286.

I never did understand the obsession with duplantis in right field. Maybe Dups was just more comfortable over there I really don’t know.
I think this was CPM doing a Senior a favor by not putting him in left, which wouldn’t look good to scouts looking at him as a pro prospect. I don’t even think his play would have mattered regardless of where he played. I think CPM just didn’t want to attach the stigma of being the weakest starting fielder (by putting him in LF) to a Senior who would be going pro in a few months and had given LSU an incredible career.

I think you’re right for the record

best glove in left, best wheels in center and best arm in right.
Best defensive OF always plays CF.
Worst OF plays left.
Remaining guy plays RF.

Yeah. I don't really care about the outfield positions. They mean very little. What matters is Cabrera's offense. Frankly, he was the disappointment on offense this season. Every other player really produced about what you should have expected entering the season. I would have bet a lot that Cabrera would have hit 50 points higher with similar or better power and walk numbers. I was amazed at how not superstarish he was this season.

I agree he was a disappointment this season. Part of the reason our hitting approach or coaching should be looked at in the offseason

The LF should have the strongest arm, there are more plays to first than any other base.

What happened to his hitting at the end of the season and in the regionals...it was not there at all

Maybe I’m wrong but I always thought you hide the weakest arm in RF? Am I wrong?

Not necessarily.
You’re rangiest outfielder always plays center that typically makes him the best but not always.
Left and right is kind of a wash at higher levels with more left handed bats and guys who can go to all fields.
Hell we played Jared Mitchell in left field
Posted on 6/13/19 at 9:09 pm to CottonWasKing
Jared Mitchell was an average OF. Weak arm, misjudged balls. Even so played a lot of RF and even CF

You're thinking Little League.

left field requires a versatile fielder because you are generally fielding balls that are hit harder on the pull side of right handed hitters, which most teams have more of. Right field is usually played more shallow than the others for the exact opposite reason. Right fielders need strong arms to keep baserunners from extending to third base, as mentioned before.

An average outfielder who played some centerfield.....
You’re making my point too easy

Right field arm has to be more accurate as well especially to home plate

He was the best OF on the 07 team by far which is why he played CF
In 08’ he quickly lost that job to freshman leon Landry
Putting your best glove in LF has never ever ever been a thing lol
Which is why Blake dean played LF and Ryan Schimpf eventually settled there in 09, with Jared in RF
