Not very funny since the Quad could literally be wiped away if the levee near LSU weakens and fails.

The quad might be ok but we should all be keeping El Cid in our prayers.

Quad's above the natural levee. It ain't going nowhere. Those two little dirt mounds next to it are purportedly older than the Egyptian Pyramids and they have never washed away.

But let's not open the Morganza, you know, because of the crawfish

I think it's more the fear that they won't be able to close it. It was damaged when they opened it the first time in '73 and with the way US infrastructure is handled I wouldn't trust it nearly 50yrs later either. It's also not as high as it was in 2011 the last time they opened it.

I’d like to introduce a concept to BR

It’s called a pressure washer

There are lots of uses for them. You can start with your sign, and then hell, you can even try it on your interstate overpasses and walls, etc...

rumors and fear mongering

If you were to read Harold Fisk's report on both the Mississippi & Atchafalaya Rivers from 1952, you would understand that there is no such thing as rumors & fear mongering when discussing the river's eventual shift.

The diversion occurs gradually but there are signs that are giveaways to each stage. Fisk projected that the critical stage would be reached in the 70s so going off his projections, the Corps has been able to delay the final stage for almost 50 years now.

The sediment deposits located both north & south of ORCS as well as the widening & deepening of the Atchafalaya's channel just below are dead giveaways of the end of the critical stage prior to channel shifting. (This is why Hans Albert Einstein who designed the ORCS, said if the Corps cannot figure out a way to remove the eventual sediment build ups on the riverbed, the ORCS would at some point in the future would fail.) Also, the frequency of dealing with a high river (floods) are another aspect of the end of the critical stage.

The sediment deposits below ORCS are designed naturally to silt up the old channel while the deposits on the northern side are there to be deposited at the mouth of the new channel to form the new delta which would be in Atchafalaya Bay.

It's enviable & even the Corps themselves know this. It's impossible to create a structure to withstand the amount scouring in what Fisk labeled a "project flood event". Eventually during one of these events, the scouring around & underneath pilings will cause complete failure of a structure but that may not even be necessary for a shift in course. The force of the flow can still scour out a hole in the levees in a meander (Widow Graham Bend) north of ORCS to where the river cuts it's own new route into the Atchafalaya.

Do you realize that the hill you walk down from the quad to the stadium is the natural levee and the quad is on top the levee?

So what happens first? The river changing course or an asteroid hits the state?

I was in Venice last Thursday thru Monday and the fuel dock was underwater the entire time. It was up to the bottom of the stairs one morning. I did notice that Sunday morning we fueled up late around 9 am and the majority of the charter fleet was tied up at the dock, that seemed odd to me being the weekend and all with snapper open. I know people go there to YF fish but still thought more would be booked. Is business slowing down for the boats due to less tuna being caught in the last 2 years?

The day the river gets near or hits 3 million cfs at Vicksburg, you will know.

Yeah, not a "natural levee." That there's a fault line.
