Education should only be viewed in economic terms.

Those interested in topics other than Science, Tech, Engineering, or Math should not be allowed to seek out continuing education because everything else has no ROI.

They shouldn't be given massive student loans that far outweigh any potential income for the next two decades.

If they get small loans, fine. If they pay themselves, fine.

LSU's Engineering program compared to that of LaTech is severely lacking. Nicholls is far superior to LSU in Coastal Studies and Aquatic Biology, as well as Nursing and Speech pathology.

One of the problems with college is that we no longer teach people to think. Cutting funding is a good idea. It will make college cheaper for the people who need it. But it won’t make colleges better.

I'll bet you didn't go to an Ivy League School. We all know if it ain't Ivy League or Stanford then it's substandard. They rule the country.

Larger universities, while leaning left significantly, are not the bastions of progressive ideology nor the camps of forced conformation to progressive dogma that small, private, liberal arts colleges are

Liberal arts college does not equal liberal in political thought. It is a mistake commonly made today. It is a "classic" education in the vein of the ancient Greeks where someone is educated in a wide range of subjects from humanities to social, natural and formal sciences.

You're absolutely right.

State students should be able to access their State Universities at an affordable rate, at most a couple grand a semester so that they have some skin in the game. Universities have become money making machines and have abandoned their primary function, which is to educate the State's populace so that the State may benefit economically in the future. Instead, Universities benefit themselves economically on the backs of the sons and daughters of the people that have already paid for their creation and continuance.

Yeah instead of complaining about people taking out tons of student loans why don’t we just make education affordable or at least priced at the value of each degree in the real world

This far from true on so many levels. I often google academic resumes when looking at various companies or public entities. You should try it because you might be surprised to learn that the CEO of your local electric company has an undergrad degree in the dreaded Gender Studies or that the director of transportation at the local Parish has a BS in Sociology. The state director of planning might have a degree in geography.
What you get your first degree in and what you do the rest of your life isn’t always a linear path.

Must be some prestige to graduate from SUNO. Only 15% make it out with degrees. It’s the real Harvard of the south.

1.) how did this person, who looks like they can barely walk/talk graduate from college?

Good question. In my opinion, the value of a college degree has certainly been diminished. Fifty years ago, going to college actually meant something. Now, everyone and their brother has a degree or spent some time at a university, community college, or an online college (whether or not they finished, flunked out, etc.)

2.) who is footing the bill for this? I assume they are taking out student loans for these piece of shite degrees.. adding insult to injury to the student debt situation.

The students, their parents, scholarships, private lenders, or the government? Private lenders can do as they so please. The government? They most likely won't bother using the money in the public's best interest anyway, so why bother questioning them. Besides, I'm always for a more educated population.

3.) does having all these small regional colleges where anyone with a pulse can get in take away from worth awhile institutions?

Ehh...except for a few of the major state schools, (e.g., University of Virginia, University of Michigan, University of Texas) I'm not going to say that my flagship degree is that much better than some of the other directional schools. Hell, the entire University of California system is arguably better and more prestigious than the entire SEC "flagship" schools.

Public universities should be tuition free. It will Force the bs programs to be abolished. The university has no incentive to cut those programs in the current model.

Gender studies is useless whether it’s at BRCC or Harvard

You do realize a person with a degree from Harvard even if it's in Gender Studies has a leg up on those of us who graduated from a SEC school. You will fine more liberal arts majors on Wall Street from the Ivies than grads from SEC schools.
