The Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans have pursued former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Ty Lue as a lead assistant, but Lue’s focus remains on a return to the NBA in a head coaching role, league sources told The Athletic.

quote:

Lue has history working with New Orleans head coach Alvin Gentry and executive Vice President David Griffin. He was an assistant coach with Gentry on Doc Rivers’ staff with the Los Angeles Clippers, and he was Griffin’s head coach in Cleveland.

i guess this supposes that lue would replace gentry and gentry goes upstairs in a year or so

Crewz mentioned Lue as a Gentry successor a few weeks ago. Makes sense given Lue’s ties to Griff.

Strictly a move to please Davis and his agent.
Wouldn’t be a bad move with his ties. Griffin and him have a wonderful relationship. IMO this would help TREMENDOUSLY in recruiting Davis back.

Not a big fan of Lue, but he is popular with players. Could help attract free agents. Have no clue about his coaching ability.

As an assistant to Griff or Gentry, sure. Bring him in.

As a successor coach to gentry? ??
He is another eric spoelstra.

Go through his career and find the best of the people Griffin has worked with to figure out who he's going to go after.

How could you possibly infer that he would replace Gentry in a year?

Also, while your title isn't wrong, it's misleading.

I have no idea about his coaching abilities either. Is he a good coach or just great with players?

i said "a year or so"...and why wouldnt that be the plan? why would you hire lue (and why would he take the job) if thats not the plan? he's still getting paid by the cavs, and he wants to be a head coach again

sorry to have confused you, i'll use bigger letters next time

Great. If Lue comes here and Zion signs with Klutch, we will have a huge circus and basically Klutch will be running the show.

The answer is not nearly as bad as many on TD make it out to be.

I can't have this, personally. I talked way too much shite to Lakers fans on the MSB about them possibly hiring him.

Not saying it isn't, it's just very modern-media of you to just throw that statement out as if it were remotely true.

I wouldn't

You can start with capital letters on his name.

Did you mean this as an insult? If so, that's frickin dumb as hell. He and we could only wish he was another Eric Spoelstra. There is no evidence to indicate that's true though.

So, he's a damn good coach?

I'm not a big Lue fan, but I'm interested in seeing him coach away from LeBron. I don't feel like you can really determine how good a coach is when they have LeBron on their team.
