This is why I don't watch that much television. American TV shows go on forever and, when they do attempt to wrap up the story, they do it in the most unsatisfying way possible. Game of Thrones should have continued on for at least 3 seasons with 10 episodes a piece - which is what GRRM was trying to convince the showrunners of since season five.

Season 1 - 91%
Season 2 - 96%
Season 3 - 96%
Season 4 - 97%
Season 5 - 93%
Season 6 - 94%
Season 7 - 93%
Season 8 - 53%

What pisses me off about the final season is that it didn't have to be the final season. HBO wanted them to go until at least season 10, GRRM wanted them to go until seasons 10-13, but D&D were adamant that they could wrap up everything that needed to get wrapped up in 8 seasons (with the final two seasons shortened). The result? A rushed pile of shite.

Yep they ruined an otherwise fantastic show by trying to rush the ending.

I enjoyed the final season.

They had the battle of the dead and the attack on King's Landing. Those events had to happen. I think they did extremely well on those two episodes.

They also completed character stories. Not sure what you people wanted or expected.

I think people are just pissed the show ended and this is how they handle it.

If the other seasons were done like 7/8 then Ned gets his head chopped off Episode 3 and the Red Wedding is the Season 1 cliff hanger.

I liked it too

I also loved S6 and S7 and those get a lot of hate too

I’ve always said a “bad” episode of GoT is still better than 95% of TV

For the story not be so incredibly rushed and characters dumbed down because of it,

I'm conflicted. Season 8 sucked, but a sucky season 8 is still better than 95% of television by ways of top notch production and acting (sans Kit).

Dismissing criticisms out of hand is a weak rebuttal to those criticisms.

The bullet points of what happened were fine for the most part, but what made the show extraordinary from the beginning is that they went the extra mile in building the story up to those bullet points and did it in a way that it didn't seem like filler as it is on most shows. Season 8 in some instance just leapt right into the bullet point. You went from a show that masterfully crafted a story to a show that spit bullet points from GRRM's outline out at you.

I really don't understand why some people both don't get this and weren't bothered by this. I guess CGI fire breathing dragons are a big enough distraction for some people to not notice.

Yep. It’s not judged the same. 53% is harsh, but it’s Game of Thrones. People expected more.

There's a difference between "completing character stories" and completing character stories satisfyingly. The show definitely did the former but effed up on the latter. The vast majority of critics of the final season, myself included, are pretty much fine with the direction these characters went. What we're upset with is how we got there.

Here's an example. Dany and Jon didn't meet each other until S7E3. Yet by S7E7, they were in love with one another and having sex in her cabin. I'm sure that's where they end up in the books, but the whole Jon-Dany love story felt rushed. Compare that to Jon and Ygritte. They meet mid-way through season two but don't consummate their relationship until late in season three. Time passes and their relationship is allowed to breathe and be fleshed out.

So when the two go their separate ways it's more tragic and heartbreaking for the audience because you know these two love each other. Ygritte's death scene was also more impactful than Dany's, which is a tragedy considering how Dany was arguably the most important character of the entire series.

Some people are stuck in the Anger phase in their 5 steps of grief.

Some people are in denial (signing a petition)

I’ve moved on to acceptance. I’ve accepted the turd that was forced on me and moved on with my life.

Yeah. Starting with season six (and even five a little) it was clear they were just building up to some grand finales and had a bunch of filler and bullshite in between.

All of this. I had no idea there were so many fans of the transformers movies on this board.

People were pissed about this season way before the final episode.

Please watch and respond to this.

Not that I am doubting you, but where did you hear GRRM wanted 13 seasons?

I agree. People are just mad the show didn’t end how they wanted it to end.
