Individually, I have no problems with the episodes in general. I thought they all did a good job of what the purpose of each episode was suppose be. Last episode could've ended stronger, but it is what it is. The Long Night battle was amazing and Daenerys burning King's Landing was a great sequence. Episode 2 was great build up to the coming event.
With that said, in the context of the show, the season as a whole could be seen as a disappointment. They build up all of these story lines, character arcs, and major events, only to blow through them in a matter of an hour. The whole story line of the Night King and the army of the dead could've easily filled an entire season or at least 5 episodes. You have been building this force up for season after season, and in a matter of 2 episodes its over?
Turning to face Cersei and the turn of the Daenerys would've filled 6-7 episodes on its own. But we get sped through mad Daenerys instead. D&D build up massive character acts, like Arya's, and never fully utilize them. Bran is another example of this with the three eyed raven and Night King rivalry and all we get is a short staring contest between the two of them. No further explanation, no nothing. This is may biggest complaint with the season. There is no need to rush the story telling. You've been doing this for years, why would you want to rush the final stretch of it for the sake of getting it done.
This season doesn't ruin the entire show for me. I really hoped for a great and truly memorable ending, and we only got moments of it.

I agree. People are just mad the show didn’t end how they wanted it to end.
This has got to be trolling at this point. If someone is incapable of seeing that the crafting of the story dramatically changed into a race to the finish as the show neared completion then they should just stick with fast and the furious.
I think plenty of people were completely receptive to any story they wanted to eventually tell. But to have character arcs take massive, unsupported swings in 1-2 episodes of a 73 episode show without any real support was just disappointing.

Dany was arguably the most important character of the entire series.
She was the plot point that the rest of the series revolved around because there was always the whole "she's out there with her dragons and she's coming for us eventually"
But I would argue that her actual character development was not that important, in hindsight.
She kindbof did a paint by numbers for 7 seasons... Go here because you have to do this, gob here because your character has to do that, etc.
I really don't think she grew much as a character after about season 2.
She was basically just: I want the throne and I'm going to kill everyone in my way.
Remember Dany spent 3 SEASONS in Mireen!

His interview at the premiere of season 8.
GRRM was asked by a reporter why it was ending. He told her to ask D&D before saying he wanted it to go on to season 13.

What pisses me off about the final season is that it didn't have to be the final season. HBO wanted them to go until at least season 10, GRRM wanted them to go until seasons 10-13, but D&D were adamant that they could wrap up everything that needed to get wrapped up in 8 seasons (with the final two seasons shortened). The result? A rushed pile of shite.
GRRM should have sold the tv rights to HBO and not to D&D.

I think they did extremely well
Winter is coming has been said for thousands upon thousands of years by the First Men and the Andals.
It is the Starks House quote, it is the firs thing we see in the show.
DnD had it last literally a night.

What they should have done was extended season 7 by 3 episodes and finished the NK story last season. Then this season should have been 10, and could have been used really building up the final battle with Cersei, and exploring how Danny goes mad along with all the interpersonal character development that has made this show so incredible. Instead we got the Wikipedia plot points of a season.
I’m ok with the outcomes of this season. It just feels really unearned.

I don’t think they needed 10 seasons but season 7 and 8 should have been full 10 episode seasons.
I think the biggest mistake they made was having a total of 13 episodes for the last 2 seasons.

Seasons 1-7 were all solid. Regardless of what people say about it dropping off after 4. Season 8 was definitely a drop off but still enjoyable. People got mad because they read the leaks, which were on target and in my opinion that’s why so many people were as pissed as they were.

Honestly, HBO should do this. Just pick up after Season 6 with new writers and pretend like 7 and 8 never happened.

yep. 5 was really bad too.
6 was okay with some really good parts.
1-4 are masterworks

Most people didn’t read the leaks yet most were disappointed. People were pissed because the show was rushed. Season 7 as well.

For the story not be so incredibly rushed and characters dumbed down because of it,
I think this might hold true in the books. Tyrion was dumbed down pretty good but he still ended up being the hand. I think he's going to make similar mistakes in the books as well. He's been too clever for too long. Sansa telling him "I used to think you were the cleverest man alive" might be a quote from the books, or something similar.

10 seasons would've been brutal though. Dany would still be in Mereen like the books.
7 and 8 should've been 10 episodes each though like all the other seasons.

I think that reasoning does apply to most people. Maybe not many on a movie/tv forum who invest a little more time and thinking in to it, but for a casual viewer the "I wanted Jon Snow to be King!" or "I wanted Dany to be Queen not a mad woman!" is a typical thinking. It didnt end the way many wanted so they didnt like it.
Im on physical therapy right now and I talk about GoT with the three girls in there every monday and that is pretty much the exact thinking of all of them.
Its not trolling, its common thinking for a ton of Got viewers.

If they had raced through the final episodes to put Jon Snow on the throne we'd have a fraction of the complaints. We'd still have a smaller portion upset in how fast he got there and the methods used, but you wouldn't have the widespread public disappointment in the ending.
