re: Bust that you were sure would be great?

quote:. In no way was Reggie a bust. He was just victim of too high of expectations. He was never going to be that 25 touches game in and game out back. He never quite learned that in the nfl the constant juking back forth doesn’t work. Defenses are too fast, you have to make one cut then turn on the jets and get what you can. A good player who the saints never win the super bowl without him.
How tf are people saying reggie was a bust?

Although it's hard to label a fourth rounder a bust, I really thought that Danny Wuerffel was going to be a good NFL quarterback. In college, he ripped LSU apart. He was one of the more accurate college quarterbacks I'd ever seen. And, he seemed like a really smart QB.
Some have said that he had small hands and the difference in size between the college football and the NFL ball was his downfall.

Courtney Watson. He was drafted in the 2nd round, in the 2004 draft, and I thought he was our answer at MLB for yrs to come.

He’s one of the dumbest posters on this board. Disregard his stupidity.

What’s your standard for a bust? Reggie was the prototype for an entirely new offensive weapon that spawned Sproles, and now Kamara. For what he was, he was incredibly productive. Perhaps underwhelming but far from a bust.
He was the #2 overall pick
He wasn't incredibly productive though. This is something people either ignored when he was here or have forgotten since he has left, because they can't get past the Reggie hype and their love for the player to see the truth. Here's the truth:
AYPC = 3.9 for his entire career here, but only 3.6, 3.7, 3.8 his first two. His final two years saw his carries cut in half each year (70 carries in '09 and 30 in '10). '10 was an injury year, but he was finally starting to find his game this year.
Still, 3.9 ypc is not good, and it's terrible for the #2 overall pick who was supposed to take the league by storm (to borrow a cliche).
Receiving numbers dropped every year he was here, with his first logging 88 receptions and his final 34.
He had 29 TDs in 5 years here (17 rushing, 12 receiving). That's 6/year. That's 2 less than Kamara who has been here only 2 years
Reggie never surpassed 600 yards rushing (586 his highest in year 2), and outside of his 742 receiving in his rookie year he never even touched 500 again.
So please, tell me again how he was not a bust? Show me the numbers that support anything about him being more than a solid player. Was he bad? Not really. He did have bad vision and missed many holes, but he also corrected this over the years. Other than that he was a solid to decent player who would break off a great play every once in a while.
Kamara plays like Reggie's #2 draft status
Reggie couldn't even play like Kamara's 3rd round status
The Myth of Reggie is now busted, just as he was a bust.

You cant measure the full impact of Bush through his stats. You can look at all of the top offenses he was apart of and how much the threat of him opened things up for the Colstons of the world.

because hes not. seriously, look around. You are the only person on earth who thinks this. And just because he went #2 overall doesn't mean his threshold for bust status is canton.

How to win an argument: falsely propose a losing argument as that of your opponent's.
Please point to me where I ever stated that he is a bust due to not being in canton. I'll wait

actually, you can. In his career, he rushed for 5490 yards and 36 TD's. He caught for 3600 and another 18 TD's and he had nearly 1000 career return yards with 4 TD's.
He has more total career yards and nearly as many TD's as Terrell Davis who is in the HOF. Reggie wasn't a HOF'er by any means, but to call him a bust is ignorant.

One, I didnt call him a bust. I was defending his tenure with the Saints as he played an important role that the stats do not reflect. Overall he was part of some of the top offenses in the league.
Two, why are you talking about his whole career? He had four seasons of 1000+ yards from scrimmage, and three of them were with other teams, including his two best seasons which came with the Lions and Dolphins. His career was fine, but his time here with regards to his draft position can certainly be questioned.

I’m not critiquing you at all. In fact, I’m piggybacking off of your post. In fact, I don’t think we disagree in any way.

I mean I thought it was obvious it was a joke at the posters claiming he was a bust. Especially since my post history on davenport has been positive and I do think he’ll be a monster next year.

Amazes me people call him a bust simply because he wasn’t Barry Sanders (no one is) after a HOF college career.
Reggie was still fantastic, dynamic and we do not win a Super Bowl without him. He’s got my support for life.

11th Overall Choice in the 1979 NFL Draft
The only three time All-American punter in NCAA history (‘77-‘79)
He had a record 67 yard field goal versus Rice in ‘79.
He is the most correct answer to this thread.
