Ghengis khan all day and not because of his leadership but because the Mongols were bad arse. If you want to know why listen to hardcore history - wrath of the khans.

Also Alexander was a severe drunk. There are parts of his campaign that were overwhelmed by stupidity that can only be explained by booze given his otherwise competence. It’s also what likely led to his death. He had to have been poisoned in his cup, because his death makes little sense otherwise.
Genghis died in his 60s if not 70s while conquering the world. He had less personal flaws than Alexander.

For nearly all of human history disease has been the primary cause of death, how does that not make sense.

Genghis. It’s simple: Alexander inherited his army. Genghis rose from nothing to gain his. This is a no-brainer.
This is a strong point

quote:Yep. Khan won because of horses. Give Alexander access to the same military tech and he's a far more creative problem solver. They still teach his tactics at West Point. Khan didn't really have tactics. He had a systemic advantage.
if you give Alexander a time machine to the time of ghengis and allow him a year to get caught up on ghengis’s style and tactics he beats him 9X out of 10
Nope.

Gotta go with ghengis.
Alexander banged boys on the regular and I’m just not quite into that.
Plus like 3% of the world can be traced to ghengis. He spread his seed like crazy

I’m sorry friend, but you’re just flat out wrong. The only way to fight against the mongols, is to use other mongols.

What?! You have to be fricking with me. The khan didn’t have tactics
Ever heard of the feigned retreat? Yeah, the mongols perfected it. Parthian shot? Again, with stirrups was beyond devastating.
Then you have the whole, mobility thing. Get tired, pull back. Get new horse. Ride back in.
Alexander wouldn’t have a chance. Oh, and even if you have Alexander’s army the exact same equipment and a couple of years to prepare, they STILL would get their shite pushed in. The mongols were born in the saddle, and died in the saddle. You can’t replicate that in a few years.

It depends on who has the bigger army and who they invading. Kahn invades tribes. Alex invades fortified positions.
Give me Caesar and his ability to destroy both...and also his army.

Wasn't the same Roman army as in centuries past. Less disciplined, not as well trained.

Caesar had zero chance against Alexander. Alexander conquered more than the entire Roman Empire In 8 years. Dan Carlin who I’m sure most on this board would respect believes you could take Alexander and his army and literally just pick them up and drop them off on the battlefield with any army up up until the Middle Ages and have about a 25% chance of victory. That is insane. Also Alexander and the macedons were also horse people. The difference is Alexander was also a genius who was taught by either Plato or Socrates (can’t remember which). Also the Mongolian empire was built after ghengis as well. And as others have said Alexander destroyed his predecessors on the Asian steppes.

Bruh the mongols invaded Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Genghis’ siege warfare is what separates him from the rest of the steppe greats
