re: Possible Wade meeting Monday; Lipsey and Williams may be working together to oust Alleva

I’d like to have the Alabama or A&M scenario where it’s obvious the people with the power know what they’re doing and are out to win and not out just to suit their own interests. They have a quality football coach and/or a quality AD who is allowed to do his job and attract quality coaches because they know he is competent and has the power to do his job.
Hold on.
Mal Moore was the AD at Bama for nearly 15 years. During that time he hired three football coaches: Mike Price (fired before even coaching a game), Dennis Franchione (who left after two seasons) and Mike Shula. He tried to hired Rich Rodriguez until Saban just fell into his lap. A year earlier Saban doesn't leave the NFL for any job, including Bama. Timing is everything and he was the beneficiary.
On the basketball side they've had (now) 4 HC's in the last 20 years, 7 NCAAT appearances and one SEC championship. To contrast, during that same time period LSU has had 4 HC's, 7 NCAAT appearances, four SEC championships and one Final Four appearance.
In short, the only "tremendous" thing about their athletic dept is Saban, whose hire was simply just a matter of good luck and capitalizing on that luck.
A&M on the other hand is attracting good coaches because money is simply no issue and they are willing to spend it like a coke addicted stripper. MANY guys could be great AD's if they had essentially a blank checkbook.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's beyond time for Joe to go, but overall LSU hasn't been horrible compared to the rest of the league. You just need an administration that recognizes LSU athletics for what it is...a multi-million dollar business in many respects separate from the university as a whole and operate it as much. Instead of (Alexander) running to anyone who will listen and telling them how LSU is on the verge of bankruptcy, sell the school as a great place and get on the same page the athletic dept. to allow it to make millions for the university as a whole rather than bemoan the fact the DC gets paid significantly more than the dean of gender studies.

Mark my words. Woodward will be the next LSU AD. Sounds like the guys up north are ready for change.

Do you believe a word Alleva utters?
I do, I'm not saying he's a good person or AD but I think the football and basketball coaching fiascos were not his decision. I guess you can blame him for going along with it.

He was hired before all the facts came out about that. His stock was up at the time of the hire.
if by “before” you meant “a year after”...
lid blew off the case in early/mid ‘07. Alleva wasn’t hired here until ‘08.

Verge can be interim AD. Nothing more. Dan Radakovich and Scott Woodward should have to turn LSU down at least three times before we give up on them.

Agreed. Verge is a good choice for the short term but I'd prefer Rada or Woodward for sure. Make them tell you no.
I wish we could sweep Alleva, FKing and the entire BOS out and start over. Lipsey should get in JBE's ear but I'm not sure their politics are compatible.

I don't disagree, but Baton Rouge is home and LSU is his alma mater. Before getting into college athletics he was a lobbyist in LA, so it's not like he doesn't understand the political landscape of the state. If he could get some assurances that the administration as a whole was getting better then I could see him returning home. Hell, I'm pretty sure he recently became (or at least applied) to be member of the Baton Rouge Country Club, which seems a bit odd for someone who lives in College Station, TX.

If this Williams guy is the one who called for the suspension why would he be pissed Alleva wanted it known. Sounds like Williams wants to make decisions but not be responsible for the outcome. Seems like a bad choice for chairman.

Did anyone actually read the part where it said Ausbury would be interim?

Verge interim AD
Then hopefully Dan comes home.

I read something where Lipsey wanted to bring back Skip Bertman as an interim, but Skip wasn't much, if at all better, than Alleva
Skip's tenure was a tough one for LSU fans because he did some of the tough things that needed to be done to improve revenue and facilities. I didn't agree with all of them, but Skip never showed that he was putting Skip above LSU as AD.
Alleva lives and breathes Alleva. He is 100% about self-promotion and self-preservation, with a big dose of kneejerk sprinkled on top.
Skip >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Alleva

Skip is 80 years old and has had some pretty major health issues since he retired. As much as I like him, it would be very surprising to see him back.

100% spot on.

To say that Williams is connected to a lot of nola politicians of a certain ilk is an understatement. Very very connected.
And trust me, if he is picking the next candidate, that person will have to fill certain...qualifications. 100%. I'll say no more.

So the Moore/Saban scenario was somewhat like the Alleva /Wade scenario.

How poetic would it be to see James Williams be the guy to oust Alleva
Hopefully he’s wearing some nice sparkling earrings so this board can cry some more lmaooo

How long does Williams have as BoS Chairman? It cant be much longer, hasn't the Board already elected his successor?
If Williams is in cahoots with this money guy, from what I've read he has one agenda. Verge Ausberry as AD would be an unmitigated disaster. He's too LSU. We dont need a " he's one of us " running the Athletic Dept.
If an AD is removed, everyone remotely involved with carrying out his agenda should also be removed.

Nothing like LSU for mixing high drama and sports. Will we ever get out of that rut?
On the other hand, the SI cover story "Hello Trouble I'm Dale Brown" came out before the start of 85-86 Final 4 season. So maybe the drama is a good sign?

Am I the only concerned if this is true? Williams has an agenda and putting a competent AD in place is probably not the main point. Are we going to be looking at getting the best person available for the job or will it be be more important to put someone in place who has the right set of values (read that SJW) or who meets certain other criteria not at all related to athletics? I know it seems we couldn't get much worse than Alleva but LSU has a history of "hold my beer" moments. Maybe that's my own distorted perceptions. I honestly think I trust Williams less than Alleva.
You are not the only one. Sometimes the devil you know IS better than the devil you do not yet know.
