Verge is a good guy and all, but he’s absolutely not major college athletics material.

Again, a Jindal appointed BoS picked Alexander. JBE doesn’t have any allegiances to F King Alexander. Before inciting the morons here, do your due diligence

I’d be happy with Verge.

Nah, I would say the same thing if it was one of the hundred, white associate ADs who happened to be married to Edwin Edwards' daughter.

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

Tell us why. It better not be because he played ball here and is one of us.

Stopped reading right there. Maybe your thread title it true and, if so, great but I put no stock in McKay.

Lipsey should not have a part in this and if he does it's a sad state of affairs at LSU.

The founder of TAF and former board chairman should have no say in choosing an AD?

Okay

the Dellenger piece read as an attempt by Alleva to message that it was Williams, rather than Alleva, responsible for the decision to suspend the coach.
If that info came from Alleva rather than FKing or another source, I'd be surprised. Alleva is feckless, but he'd presumably understand how stupid throwing Williams under the bus would be.

Then again, if Joe gets his entire contract paid out, perhaps it's actually a win for him.

Unfortunately though, FKing is the main cog needing to be shown the door. The Wade calamity has FKing's fingerprints all over it. Unless he gets explicit direction to keep his hands off, FKing will meddle with the next AD just as he has with Alleva. It is his way.

Some people have not clamored for Verge over the years. Some people have wanted a clean sweep of everyone. I’d like to have the Alabama or A&M scenario where it’s obvious the people with the power know what they’re doing and are out to win and not out just to suit their own interests. They have a quality football coach and/or a quality AD who is allowed to do his job and attract quality coaches because they know he is competent and has the power to do his job.

You can not say that about LSU right now.

Alexander has been a big cheerleader for JBE tax increases. Don't underestimate that loyalty .

I've said it once and I'll say it again...F King Alexander is a bigger problem than Alleva.

Getting rid of Joe, but keeping Alexander will change very little unless Alexander has somehow decided to stop meddling.

Woodward would be the correct hire if we wanted to shake things up and make a major splash. We want a leader. Haven’t had that since Skip.

It's hard not to like Verge. He is a great guy. But regardless of the of the candidate the next AD needs to be autonomous. The next AD needs to get as much "the buck stops with me" language in his contact as possible. And whatever cannot be written in the AD/LSU contract needs to be made up with his personality. That is, a guy makes critical decisions concerning the Athletic Department and will take responsibility for his decisions. The job of the AD is not the be the President's or the Board Char's puppet and it's not to skirt responsibility when the going gets tough. The next AD needs to demand a much higher level of autonomy. If that is Verge? Great. But that needed to be one of the main characteristics of the next AD. Hopefully big donors like Lipsey are communicating this message. If we don't hire an AD with a strong personality that invites autonomy we are not advancing the ball.

suspension why would he be pissed Alleva wanted it known.

We only have Alleva's word that it was William's who wanted Wade suspended. Do you believe a word Alleva utters?

That's why the next AD needs to have a strong enough personality to tell FKA frick you and if you don't like it, fire me, when they disagree

Alleva should have never been hired. His stock had to be way down after the Duke debacle.
He was hired before all the facts came out about that. His stock was up at the time of the hire.
