May have already been posted…

The preacher man says it's the end of time
And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry
The interest is up and the stock market's down
And you only get mugged if you go downtown

I'd play the Red River Valley
And he'd sit out in the kitchen and cry
And run his fingers through seventy years of livin'
And wonder, "Lord, has ever' well I've drilled run dry?"

Well it was all I could do to keep from crying. Sometimes it seems so useless to remain.

Tell you a little story and it won't take long,
About a lazy farmer who wouldn't hoe his corn.
The reason why I never could tell,
For that young man was always well.

I been thinking lately about the people I meet,
the carwash on the corner and the hole in the street,
the way my ankles hurt with shoes on my feet,
and I'm wondering if I'm gonna see tomorrow

-----------------------------------------------------

I know a guy that's got a lot to lose-
he's a pretty nice fellow but he's kind of confused-
he's got muscles in his head that ain't never been used-
thinks he own half of this town.

-------------------------------------------------------

You come home late and you come home early-
you come on big when you're feeling small-
you come home straight and you come home curly-
sometimes you don't come home at all

-------------------------------------------------------

When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad-
seems like total silence was the only friend I had-
a bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won

Not truly country but she straddles the line.

"Hank Williams, he came up from Montgomery
With a heartful of broken country songs.
But Nashville, Tennessee didn't really understand him
'Cause he did things differently than the way that they were done.
When he finally made it to the Grand Ol Opry he made it stand still.
He ended up on alcohol and pills." ~ Fred Eaglesmith (Alcohol and Pills)

"In the twilight glow I see them
Blue eyes cryin' in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again"

"I hitchhiked up to Memphis, a young boy in my prime
I thought that big old city would ease my Georgia mind
After just one hour, I met this Southern girl
She said, "They call me the Queen of Memphis"
And then she took me around the world"

"You know a dream is like a river, ever changing as it goes and the dreamer's just a vessel that must follow where it goes."

"I bet you never heard ole Marshal Dillon say, "Miss Kitty have you ever thought of runnin' away?"

"Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair"

"I remember it all very well lookin' back
It was the summer I turned eighteen
We lived in a one room, rundown shack
On the outskirts of New Orleans"

Lookin' at you through a misty moonlight
Katydid sing like a symphony
Porch swing swayin' like a Tennessee lullaby
Melody blowing through the willow tree"

"She's fifteen and he's barely driving a car
She's got his ring and he's got the keys to her heart
It's just a matter of time
They'll spread their wings and fly"

"He was working through college on my grandpa's farm
I was thirsting for knowledge and he had a car"

"Our love is unconditional
We knew it from the start
I can see it in your eyes
You can feel it from my heart"

"Well she seemed all right by dawn's early light
Though she looked a little worried and weak.
She tried to pretend he wasn't drinkin' again
But daddy'd left the proof on her cheek."

"Three Thirty in the morning not a soul in sight.
The city's lookin like a ghost town on a moonless summer night."

"When I woke up this morning wiped the sleep from my eyes.
Found a new day dawning. And suddenly I realized...You're gone."
