Drinkin' was forbidden in my Christian country home.
Learned to play the flattop on them good ole gospel songs.
Then I heard about the barrooms just across the Georgia line,
Where a boy could make a livin' playin' guitar late at night.
- My Home's in Alabama, Alabama
Whisper to me softly, breathe words upon my skin.
No one's near and listening, so please, don't say goodbye.
- Feels So Right, Alabama
You could have given me a million reasons why,
But it wouldn't change a thing.
You said it all when you said goodbye.
You took off your wedding ring.

When I was a kid Uncle Remus he put me to bed
With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head
Then daddy came in to kiss his little man
With gin on his breath and a Bible in his hand
He talked about honor and things I should know
Then he staggered a little as he went out the door
Well, I can't recall, one time in my life
I've felt as lonely as I do tonight
I feel like I could lay down, and get up no more
It's the damndest feelin', I never felt it before
When I was a little boy
Daddy used to say to me "Son,"
"We got a lot of land
We got a lot of work to be done"
Go get your marbles, put 'em in the house
Tear down your castles in the sand
Come with your pappy to the cotton patch
Get a little dirt on your hands
With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head
Then daddy came in to kiss his little man
With gin on his breath and a Bible in his hand
He talked about honor and things I should know

I don't pick up the mail
I don't pick up the phone
I don't answer the door
I'd just as soon be alone
I don't keep this place up
I just keep the lights down
I don't live in these rooms
I just rattle around
Second verse is actually a little better.
I don't mind if it rains
I don't care if it's clear
I don't mind stayin in
There's another ghost here
She sits down in your chair
And she shines with your light
And she lays down her head
On your pillow at night
I'm just a ghost in this house
I'm just a shell of the man I was
A living proof of the damage heartbreak does
I'm just a whisper of smoke
I'm all that's left of two hearts on fire
That once burned out of control
It took my body and soul
I'm just a ghost in this house

Could be holding you tonight
Could be doing wrong or start doing right
You don't care about what I think
I think I'll just stay here and drink

Well, I've been spending all my money on weed n' pills
Tryin' to write a song that'll pay the bills
But it ain't came yet, so I guess I'll have to rob a bank

I hear people talkin' bad about the way they have to live here in this country
Harpin' on the wars we fight, and talkin' 'bout the way things ought to be

Better line from your second song
I have loved some ladies
And I have loved Jim Beam
And they both tried to kill me
In nineteen seventy-three

In nineteen seventy-three

I watched the rain-it settled in-we disappeared for days again-most of us were staying in, lazy like the sky.

We both lie silently still in the dead of the night. Although we both lie close together, we feel miles apart inside.
