I love the OT. Breaking news of a major scandal right on LSU campus and the thread is derailed by one picture of a porn star.

Mahaffey left because Wade Smith supported the team and Mckernan buying scholarships for athletes. Smith retired and the school was looking to cut back significantly on that

I wonder how much public money was spent on recruiting

Now, what if it can be proven that company was the cheapest and best at their job? Meaning, they were selected on their merits and they just happened to give out a perk to the customer.
Exactly!
They take an annual trip - over 75 people.
No need to reinvent the wheel. If company A has provided good service for this large trip, why NOT continue to use them the next year and the year after that???

March has been bad for LSU

This is why all my kids went to Belaire.

You realize that the purpose of bidding public projects is so that the government can be guaranteed the BEST price? If you just keep using the same people, you never have the chance to see if someone can offer a better deal. And if they are insuring you don't bid it by giving free trips to the guy making the decision, well that right there is corruption.
Can you folks not grasp these most basic of concepts? If this was a private school, this would be a non-issue. But it isn't and you can't do this type of shite with public funding.
No one seems to be discussing him and the other principal setting up that LLC and charging parents credit cards direct to a personal account. That sounds more criminal than ethics violation and I will be interested to see what happens.

Then it could also be proven that those prices could have been further reduced by not spending money on inducements
That’s what the auditors office will tell you as you’re being fired/prosecuted

Well, that plus the 100K/yr salary they’re paying him.

Yep.
I don't know why I got downvoted. I agree this was a major violation of ethics. I was simply asking the question as a test in Ethics 101 would.

I just want to know where John Gordon is playing college ball.

There appears to be a misunderstanding with some posters around the difference around what a private institution can do and what a public one can.

Accepting free vacations is a HUGE violation of ethics for a government employee.
This is the same as using your American Airline miles on one of their vacation packages. No big deal. People need to get away sometimes.
What’s the problem with the daycare? Peoples kids were watched in exchange for money and everyone got paid what they were owed. Nobody stole anything.
Buncha damn holy rollers up in here. Y’all should be minding your own business.

His options are limited now that the university bribery scandal was uncovered

Whats the big deal?? He used the travel agency because historically, they've been a good group to work with.
That’s not what it says at all. It says he accepted a free trip from them in exchange for having UHigh book their services for an annual trip to DC. That’s basically the definition of unethical business gifts. And I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that that travel agency charged significantly more than market value.

Gov’t rules create terrible prices and red tape that makes everything take too long and cost to much.
Case in point the cost of the library downtown or the I10 curve expansion.

Are you smoking crack? You don't see a problem with an agency giving gifts to a person that makes large budget decisions? Lol... It's not even remotely the same as frequent flier miles. So much so that it's not even worth an explanation.
