There could be more to this then we know

Maybe Ingram wanted to be a bell cow

Maybe he misjudged the market and didn’t accept an offer from us thinking he was going to get more

Former Saints’ RB Mark Ingram intends to sign a three-year, $15 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens, per @AdamSchefter and me. New Orleans offered 4.5 million per source. Baltimore it is for Ingram

So we lost him over $500,000 a season? You have to be kidding me. Petty on both sides.

I’m sure Ingram enjoyed playing with kamara, but he probably wants to be the lead dog again. Can’t fault him for that

You have to wonder if the Saints and Jets signing others maybe lowered his leverage.

I agree

There are human elements to this. And BAL lead the league in rush attempts last season

I'm happy for Mark and that's actually a great deal for him and the Ravens but wtf Saints? There's no excuse we couldn't have just slapped a Franchise Tag on him or just straight up offer the same deal.

Now I'm more pissed about the NFC Title game. Ingram deserved a damn ring before he left

I would guess he is getting more guaranteed money from the Ravens. In the end that's what matters.

He obviously wasn't giving us a hometown discount, not that he should have, and what the Saints offered him was fair and on par with what everyone here predicted.

I really think TB coming back really crippled our flexibility of not being so shrewd. We valued Teddy's long term future here and had tough choices to make when we have such a pool of guys we're looking to resign immediately. Banjo, Craig, Lutz immediately among others.

someone was reporting yesterday that Baltimore was in talks to give him between 7 and 8

Assuming the above numbers were right, I wonder if Baltimore dropped their offer big time once we signed Murray and they had the upper hand in the negotiations

We killed his leverage!
Optics look bad but it is what it is.

Maybe they think AK41's ready to take the reigns full-time. Latavius is gonna be a change-of-pace/3rd down back.

You telling me we couldn't give him that money?!

we offered $4.5 M and they offered $5 M

sounds like he felt insulted and left but for that small amount of money it was his decision to leave, it wasnt about the money

maybe he just wanted to be an every down back and not share the ball any more, whatever his choice to leave but i dont think he will like how his career ends with the ravens.

when was the last time we needed 1 or 2 yards and he could just get that for us? its been many years since he could do that, he couldnt pound it in on short yardage for us for years so i foresee his star fading there along with his stats

It is 100% this.

The market came in way short of what he anticipated. Murray did well to get in when he did or he would have gotten less as well.

Plus, Ingram has A LOT of miles on those tires.

That was always going to hurt his value whether he wanted to admit it or not.

He did end up in a good spot though. Ravens have been missing a solid back and he doesn’t want to play second fiddle to Kamara.

I see no losers in this deal for either team or player, although Ingram may end up realizing Kamara was probably a good thing for his career long term. He may regret it after he’s beat to hell in a couple years.

But he got what he wanted now, hope he’s up to the task.

If I had to guess, the difference was in guaranteed money
