Maybe they think AK41's ready to take the reigns full-time. Latavius is gonna be a change-of-pace/3rd down back.
You really think they will take AK off the field on 3rd down for Murray. AK is top 3 most versatile RBs in the NFL. Lay off the rocks bro.

This is not a good look for the Saints no matter how you cut it. It makes the team look petty. Mark's teammates were all on twitter praying a deal got worked out. If it was only $500K difference then thats fricked. His teammates would have known if there was other issue preventing the signed and not wishing the Saints would get it done. Really bad look here.

Not really.

How do you know he wasn’t asking us for 6-7M a year during negotiations due to overvaluing his market value.

Then we act quickly around our price point to sign the best available option.

Then the market dries up and Ingram has to act quickly to sign with his best available option.

Just because the overall numbers don’t seem that far off (without looking at guarantees in each year and other important details) doesn’t mean we came to a 500k impasse. But I’m sure a lot of people will overreact with just a cursory glance at the numbers.

Ingram thought he was getting significantly more and balked at the Saints' offer. They moved on to ensure they didn't get screwed. Once the market was set, Ingram's nice $6-7+ Million/year offers went away from the Jets and Ravens said, we'll offer $5 million/per.

This is all on Ingram, and I honestly think the Saints got the better end of the deal. Ingram is extremely overrated by many on this board and his locker room presence and antics weren't something that always helped this team.

Oh and he was such a team player that he cheated and got caught putting his team in a horrid position at the start of last season and then immediately went on a rant about getting paid.

Saints did the right thing here. Got a better pass blocker, likely equivalent runner and receiver. Murray may end up better than Ingram.

Obviously last years suspension created a rift between him and the FO. That's got to be the only explanation if the numbers are all true.

I think the suspension plus his whining and demands about money right after did him in.

Now I'm more pissed about the NFC Title game. Ingram deserved a damn ring before he left

Why? What made him so deserving of a ring over others?

Some of you people are ridiculous. He's a pretty good running back that is easier to replace than others want to believe. He's also one failed test away from a year long suspension.

I hate we lost Mark over pennies in NFL terms. Technically the contracts still aren’t official so there could be a change of heart if both teams were interested but it won’t happen. There is something else to this story that we don’t know about. Murray’s deal is really 2 years $7.2 million so he’s still a good bit cheaper than Ingram but Mark was still he better player. I wish he could have finished his career here with Kamara but I think his agents got greedy and overvalued him. It will just about cost Ingram the difference in our offers to move to Baltimore abd get settled. I still wish him the best and I hope he tears it up for 1200 yards this season as their bell cow back.

Saints offered 4/$17 but only $5mil guaranteed.
That pretty much tells the tale.

I always think it's weird how contract details come out.
Why does the overall price get leaked first, and then the guaranteed money later?

I believe the suspension sunk Ingram with Payton. Management viewed MI in a different light than his teammates. Payton considered Ingram's influence on AK and other young players as being negative.

ETA: The Saints signed a back with less wear, and for cheaper, to be the backup to Kamara.

The sad thing is the Raven's fans see him as a cheap alternative to Bell. They don't even appreciate the guy. He has to start all over again.

This is a sad day for Mark and WhoDatNation.

I don't care why he left - I just hate to see a good team player leave. best of luck MI - you will be missed by the fans who aren't total window lickers.

My understanding from sources on how Mark Ingram wound up leaving New Orleans for just a few extra $$ per year: Ingram was seeking a lot more than three years, $15 million from the Saints and never gave any indication he'd sign for that amount. And Saints felt they had to move on so they didn't miss out on Latavius Murray too. Would they have paid that much to keep Ingram? Maybe, maybe not. But they never got a counter-offer in that ballpark. Meanwhile, the Saints' best offer was four years, $17 million with only $5 million guaranteed, per source. And Baltimore offered more guaranteed money, in addition to a possible bigger role in the offense. Would Ingram have stayed in New Orleans for the same offer? Again — maybe, maybe not, but the Saints never offered as much. ... It's a shame we'll never find out, but it's also possible this ends in a win-win for both sides.

It was not a difference of $500 k. One was a 3/15 and 4/14.4 contract. So if you look at year to year, Ingram is $5m/year, but only for three years. If you add a fourth for $5m you are at $20 m. Saints in essence saved $5.6 m at least.

The $500k difference is the diff btw the $4.5 million/yr the Saints offered Ingram and the $5 million a year he accepted from Ravens.
