I kind of like the idea of Ferry/Langdon but I get how that would make people worry they took the easy way out and didn't implement enough change.

Right here. Ferry being put in the big spot just confirms anyone's fears that they had about this organization. Ferry will not have the leverage to demand big time changes, which this organization needs.

He may do a great job, but it would certainly be a disappointment at first blush.

That's essentially why Ferry got ousted from his last gig, but hearing him speak, I doubt he's changed his approach much. I think if Ferry was named POBO he would institute wholesale change which is from the little that I have heard is what ownership wants. Ms. Gayle supposedly wants a basketball version of Loomis/Ireland/Payton and will give them the resources to build a competitive franchise.

That's what they SAY they want, but seeing is believing.

An outside hire to me will always have the leverage to implement more than someone that "already has the job" essentially.

Ferry can say I want "this this and this" and they can say "Oh ok sure you can have that", while someone like Zarren can say "I don't want the job unless I can do this this and this" and is in a better position to hold their feet to the fire.

I do not trust this organization. Obviously if Ferry gets the job I will give him a chance and hope for the best, but it would be a really bad sign in my eyes.

It's not even about leverage necessarily with Ferry. It's an already established relationship with already in place boundaries and prejudices. Ferry might think "I know they'll never go for this so I'm not going to ask". A brand new person would have a blank slate to work with and would ask for the moon until he figured out what not to ask for.

Or someone like Hinkie or Zarren can go in asking for the moon and stars and if they are told no to anything, they can just not take it.

On the other hand, Ferry already has it.

I'm curious if you guys think it would be smart to wait until after the draft lottery to make our hire. I can just imagine the job being more appealing if say we get a top 3 pick or NY gets the 1st pick.

RE: Ferry

Heard through the grapevine through very reliable source that he doesn't want to be here past his contract. Going to head back home to Atlanta (the city not the team). Reason cited was essentially the clusterfrick structure of the Pels

If that’s true that either means a Hinkie/Zarren will force change on them or we’re about to hire the Gentry version of a GM. That also gets to what Fun Bunch is saying, Ferry doesn’t have the leverage he needs for change.

Personal preference is Zarren for POBO (and he can pick whatever GM he is comfortable with) and Stackhouse to replace Gentry.

Griffin seems like the favorite here.
Might not mean anything but, fwiw, Griffin is VERY MUCH into Brandon Ingram.

Saw him on NBAtv the other night with Mike Fratello, and Fratello was talking about how Griffin has talked up Ingram and his star potential for a long time. Griffin thought it was finally starting to come true, before the blood clots.

Griffin specifically mentioned the blood cots changing his trade value.

I would question that report a bit. Ferry voluntarily became interim GM and moved here full time essentially putting his name in the ring. I can’t imagine he’s had a huge change of heart in the 3 weeks he’s been GM.

Yeah if anything the reasoning people have given for him possibly passing on the job would be how close him and Dell are and how he may feel awkward "taking" Dell's job. Not sure if that's actually true or not.

Cant go into too much detail but It's not a report, it's literally from Ferry's mouth

Post being named interim GM, too. Of course things change. This was as of about a week and half ago

I don’t think we can assume Ferry taking on the job for 3 months means he’s throwing his hat in the ring. He could just see it as a steppingstone to his next job since the only reason he’s not a GM is teams are afraid. Being the Pels GM should let teams know it’s ok to hire him again.

It will be interesting to see if Kushner is able to get the full list and who’s on it.

That’s super disappointing. I was hearing that they were going to sever the Saints/Pels operations outside of marketing/business. Hopefully Kushner follows up with this and keeps the pressure on the organization to change.

The timing is probably coincidental, but they also leaked this just a few days after the In The NO podcast went on a bit of a rant about how it's disappointing that we hadn't heard anything about the search and were they actually doing a search. Local media needs to keep the pressure on for sure.

Apparently he basically laughed in AD's face in a roundtable meeting when AD was asking why fans were turning on him

I gathered he's kinda tired of the bullshite of the league in general and he may take some time off.
