I don't buy the "clusterfrick organization" excuse. It's not like the problem is Loomis/Benson meddling, the problem is there's not enough supervision if you put the wrong person in charge.

How is not caring much not a clusterfrick organization?

Funny many Pels fans acknowledge how bad the organization has been for years, but when a potential GM candidate says the organization is a shite show, we don't want to believe it.

Because on the basketball side of things the GM has pretty full autonomy. Not being a clusterfrick is by no means a pass for the Benson Empire. Had he said not willing to go big on infrastructure or short sighted or even just shite show it instantly becomes more believable. But clusterfrick makes me think of a convoluted organizational structure where it's hard to cut through the red tape to get what you need. That doesn't seem to describe the situation to me at all.

i guess, but 99.9% of today's young dumbasses aren't tasked with managing the affairs of a multi-million dollar brand commodity

Yeah, I took it as an all encompassing kind of thing

One of my theories is, they already told Ferry he will never be GM bc of how it would look in a city like New Orleans.. so he will get out ahead of that and leave on his own accord after the contract runs out

I agree with much of your description.

Still not sure how much autonomy Demps was given to beef up scouting, analytics, training staff, salary for coaches, etc etc etc. Basically, how much of a green light is there really? Or is it more "we'll leave you alone, just make sure you turn a profit?"

I think we're just parsing the word clusterfrick a little differently.

And, like Gyno says, maybe there's a different context for what Ferry is saying. Maybe he doesn't want the job or was told he can't get it. Still seems like an odd way to phrase those feelings in, what sounds like, an off the record situation.

Sure, but there are a lot of wealthy, non athlete people who think (and are told) they are much smarter and more important than they are. Whose parents don't ever care about their grades (or will spend $$$ to get them into schools). Who ply their trade in pseudo-intellectualism/moral-philosophizing from a place of immense privilege.

We have a president who's main strengths are inheriting money, being great at Twitter, and always, no matter the situation, demanding that he is right. It's no shock that other wealthy people (of all types) will be out of touch with reality when this is the cultural norm.

Was listening to Jerry West on the Steven A. Smith show earlier and he was talking about Michael Winger who is now the GM for the Clippers. Looks like he worked with Ferry about 10 years or so ago.

What do you guys think about him as POBO with Ferry as GM?

A search firm has been parsing out candidates and is expected to provide ownership a list of 5-10 names next week.

I almost posted the same thing in this thread yesterday. Where is NolaJake or the BSS guys to call out the Pels FO on a podcast?

I don't think this list will be, or even should be, public.

Im sure names will leak, but I don't think we're gonna be getting search updates from the Pelicans

It's not a public process. There are also teams who might not want to let the Pelicans interview people on their staff until the end of the season/post-season.

To be fair, they did say the list would be provided to ownership, not Pels Talk

the other team looking for a new GM

In the early stages of the Suns' GM search, Phoenix has spoken to TNT's Kevin McHale (former Wolves GM & coach + former Rockets coach) and likewise has interest in Bulls consultant Jim Paxson (former Cavs GM), league sources say

There would be riots on here if we were looking at McHale and Paxson.

Man the Benson org plays things close to the vest. Not a peep.

People can shite on our owners because of the Loomis/Saints angles, but things could be much worse....Exhibit A - Robert Sarver

No one wants to work for him.

Kushner said the process is proceeding, but there are no leaks. Didn’t sound like he expected any either until maybe close to the end.

That's always the case with them. Mickey and Lauscha always keep things tight.

If something is leaking its because they want it to.
