I don't have any about Jimmy himself, but I told this story here before. Someone I know became part of "brother Jimmy's" church. He was going to the school there and was really involved.
One day he stops by to "visit" and tells me that he has turned his life around and that he is part of the church blah blah blah and how good things are going. A few days later he came back and started the whole "hey you should come with me to one of his services". At first, I was just bullshitting him and told him "yeah maybe one day"...
So he got aggressive after that, the next day he came over and brought me CDs of "brother jimmy's" teaching and his music. He waited several days. In fact I really forgot about it and really didn't know at the time that he had an agenda.
Then he came back maybe a week later. I had music on at my house, some hip hop shite.. A lot of cussing. And he asked me if I listened to the CDs and I told him no (this was around the time downloading music was still new). Then he was like "you are listening to that kind of music but can't find time to listen to something that can save your soul?". He started going on about getting saved, blah blah blah. And that's when I realized that he was trying to get me sucked into his church.
I was direct with him. I told him "look, I respect whatever beliefs you have, but it's not my beliefs and that I don't have problems being friends, but I am not going to your church". He told me the something like "god bless your soul. I will pray that you one day get saved".
It seems like they have a format to recruiting people. They start off by getting the idea in your head, then eventually get to the whole "you will not go to heaven if you do not get saved" bullshite. What's sad is that so many people buy into it.
I know... tl;dr.. You have the option to either read it or not. Don't bitch about it.

he church on Transcontinental and West Metairie is St. Edwards, a Catholic school and church. Jimmy Swaggart is not the same denomination and most assuredly never been inside the church.
I stand corrected, I meant Transcontinental and West Napoleon...
I know St Edwards is a Catholic Shool and Church, I got the streets mixed up, thanks for your “humble” correction... Typical OT smart arse....

Swaggart is actually a Pentecostal; he was specifically affiliated with the Assemblies of God back in the day. I think that he has since gone the "non-denominational" route.

Was eating at Copeland's one day during lunch. Jimmy, his wife, and his son (who looks just frickin like him) come in. They get seated. Their food comes out. Jimmys wife says something and Jimmy says "I forgot them in the car." He gets up and goes out to their car and comes back in with his own silverware.

I read some article about his enterprise not too long ago and his bottom line is light years beyond whatever was considered his "hay day" prior to the hooker scandal
Well, his ministries held land pretty much all the way down Bluebonnet Boulevard to the Interstate. Land next to Interstate off-ramps is worth quite a bit these days. He eventually sold off the land nearest the Interstate for a pretty good sum. I think that most of it is now the Mall of Louisiana.

High school baseball coach would tell stories about how he would fuss and complain about paying $2-3 or whatever to get into games when we played his school. He said JSwag would dig in his pockets trying to find loose change to pay with, all while wearing big gold rings and all kinds of other expensive diamond jewelry. In other words saying he acted entitled, like some kind of local celebrity, that was insulted that he had to pay for admission.
That's not true at all. If he did complain, it was as a good ole boy type joke. Why was the baseball coach taking money? I know that when you played FCA at their house, you didn't even pay for admission. He was always the nicest and best behaved of any of them at school sports. Genuinely a nice guy.

Parts of Perkins Rowe too.

I don’t know about him but his wife is a total count and Donnie is the biggest prick that you will ever meet out on the streets.

Most Baptists do, the ironic thing is Catholics don't give a damn and it just pisses the Baptists off even more.
I'm Baptist and have been around A LOT of Baptists my whole life. I've never met a Baptist that professes to hate Catholics. You must be hanging around the wrong crowd.

Same, except I'm a crappy Baptist. I have no problem with drinking, dancing etc. The Catholic religion is pretty scary, and possibly evil, but I can't think of a Catholic I've ever known that I didn't like.

He had sold the Perkins Rowe parcel to Schwegans a long time ago prior to his blowup. But he sold the Mall of Louisiana twice. Some guy tried to build a mall and couldn’t raise the money and kept paying for an extension of the purchase agreement but he was scamming the money. Swaggart collected the cash and when the guy got popped Swaggart got the property back and got to keep the cash. Think that guy and his hairdressing girlfriend went to jail. Google can find that one for you - I can’t remember the name.
He is in a court fight with another group that bought a piece behind that before Katrina and he backed after after Katrina hit and the value went up. Think he lost the last round but it is still being litegated. Probably google that as well.
When he built that campus he just hit a perfect time in BR. First we were going through a bad economy and his building pretty much single handily kept BR going. He was the only person building and a lot of the craftsmans at that time left to go to Atlantic City to work on believe it or not Trumps Taj Mahal.
Then he opened his Christian school when everyone was bailing out of EBR public schools so he went like gang busters until he got caught with a wet wick.
But well before all that he made his money in radio and eventually TV globally. That’s what paid and pays the bills.

I went to LSU with a guy who worked for a close follower of swaggart. He said he was a known cocaine abuser and was an erratic POS who always prosthetelized JS's ministry. He said he was always in the front row of the tv broadcast sweating and overly enthusiastic. Thank Jesus for cocaine! Praise the Lord!
RIP JSM cocaine guy, he died too young he was 44. God bless his soul.

Indirectly led to the name change from Airline Hwy to Airline Drive in Metairie.

Is it? You think I made up that story? I don't know if they have a certain guideline they follow to "recruit" people, but in the situation I mentioned, it seemed like it could have been "text book".
First time, mention it and give some information on it.
Second time, get them thinking about being involved.
Third time, provide them with material so they can hear the message.
Fourth time, press with "you have to be saved in order to get to heaven".
They use the oldest sales tactics in the book.. Fear. There are a lot of naive people in the world so to tell them they have to get saved or else.. I honestly think it's pretty shitty.
