What’s the end game for this NBA era?

At some point, fans will get tired of not only the super teams, but players throwing a city under the bus. I know players have rights on where they want to play, but when you want out, you risk alienating your fans.
Too many stars leave, fanbases become apathetic. Can the NBA sustain this many teams and still be competitive? What’s the point in having teams in New Orleans, Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, Sacramento, Minneapolis, Washington, etc. if fans would rather cheer on Lebron or some other stud?
I am die hard for the Spurs, and have been damn lucky to witness titles. The Kawhi situation was unique. I couldn’t imagine going through that shite more often.
The players clearly don’t care about legacy anymore beyond a ring. That’s their right.
Players used to be judged by rings, fair or unfair. It was always brought up with Barkley and Malone. Now, it’s almost becoming the opposite. So many players are chasing rings that they will be shite on in the long run for being mercenaries or riding someone else’s coattails to a ring.
When does this cycle end? Do we end up seeing contraction within the league? Major changes coming to salary cap structure?

Adam Silver is secretly an under cover agent for the NFL sent to dismantle the NBA from the inside while the NFL gets it shite together. So far, he’s doing a far better job at dismantling the NBA than Goodell is at getting the NFLs shite together.

Odd thing to say considering the NBA has absolutely dominated news coverage during super bowl week

I don't know what the end game is, but it has become a very hard sport to follow. I was thinking today that I've never heard of 90% of the players in the league now.
I used to be able to name players, teams, and coaches. Now, I only see highlights sporadically. I think some of it has been that the Pels are terrible and the rest has been the superteams recently. To me, it's just hard to care.

We are talking about guys strong-arming their way out in their prime to go play in a bigger market. This isn’t a guy moving on at the end of his career.
I’d say the big names of the 90’s and 80’s can be associated with one team. Not so much today.

What's ruining the NBA is what is ruining all sports, bad officiating. The NBA is just the worst of them all.

Eh, it's kind of understood now you better get your act together with a great player on their rookie and second deal or they may leave. If an organization can't get that done, it's on them. People have a weird jealousy that players have power like this in the NBA, but it's better than egomaniac billionaires having total control a la the NFL.

I’m not saying it is or isn’t. I’m just saying that when fans would rather root for LA or GS than their hometown team, it’s a problem. This league hasn’t figured out how to give hope to smaller market teams. Those teams that have managed to succeed do so in spite of the attitude of current players and the league model.

I like that it forces teams to act. But the recent actions of guys like AD and Kawhi is just shitty. It’s pathetic really.

i do not see why this is an issue. its a superstar-driven league and always has been, right?
when i was growing up everyone and their brother rooted for the bulls and chicago
then shaq/penny and the magic
in the 80s, it was the lakers and celtics

This is an odd take to me. The Cavs had 4 straight finals as a small market team. The Nuggets are one of the best in the West, as are the Jazz.
The Warriors were awful for many years until they overhauled their organizational structure. The big market aspect of the NBA is overrated.
The better teams made it through organizational competence, like the Warriors and Celtics, and they reaped benefits with stars wanting to join, i.e., Durant and Hayward.

I don't know why or how it happened, but Kareem played in Milwaukee for a bit then went to the Lakers. Was that bad?
How did the Celtics get 4 or 5 HoFers on the same team? The draft? Idk. So if you aren't drafted to a team like that then just frick your legacy I guess?
I just really can't get worked up by athletes moving teams.

Ahh so you have to hope the possible GOAT grows up down the street and you get to draft him then he returns after leaving since it's his hometown team.

And they'll never beat the big market warriors or rockets in the playoffs.

Stern's decision to build NBA brand identity by maximizing the public shilling of players over teams has slowly turned the league into an elite pro version of AAU. Silver is executing what Stern built a long time ago. Stern tried to maintain total control from the Commissioner's Office, but it seems like Silver has a midas touch when it comes to balancing the Player's League Concept with the desires of the owners.
Think about this, the NBA Elite Players:
can decide where they want to play
Who they want to play with
Who they want to coach them
How much money they want to play for each team
How long they want to play for each team
When these guys show promise and elite level potential as pre-teens they are catered to and the AAU/HS system is set up in their favor. The CBB and NBA systems are just carrying that out to its highest forms. What actually makes this Player's League concept work is there is an intense peer pressure lead by elite players to do the work and fools are not suffered long by the big names.
really says a lot for AD that he wants to leave "his team" to go play for LBJ and the Lakers. AD apparently prefers to follow, rather than lead.

Those teams that have managed to succeed do so in spite of the attitude of current players and the league model.
Everyone continues to romanticize that era and those 2 players. The best players now want to be remembered like that because they see what it can do for their lives. I'm not going to stress them trying to go achieve it where they think they can.
