How weird is it that BRPD can't find any recruits?

The SWB admin has been cultivating an image that the department is hostile to white officers, and all too giddy about throwing their officers to the wolves.

I am shocked that they are having trouble getting applicants.

Boggles the mind.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Shortages at the Baton Rouge Police Department have peaked. With about 73 vacancies in the department, this year’s recruitment is vital.

Sgt. Rendy Richard has been tackling recruitment for 15 years and she says this is the biggest challenge she has ever faced.

“I’ve never really had issues with trying to fill slots,” said Richard. “This is definitely a challenge.”

The agency can allow for 698 officers and right now, they only have about 625. The unavoidable fact is BRPD is in dire need of more manpower.

“We need qualified candidates and we need them on the streets,” said Richard.

After breaking records in 2017, the number of killings last year in the capital city dipped to 87. Doing more with less in recent years has taken its toll on those tasked with keeping the community safe.

Well for $33K/yr starting, potential recruits are doing the math and realizing it’s simply not worth it, to work in a city where the northern inhabitants of the city hate you with a burning passion.

Well, I can't imagine why no one wants to be a police officer in Baton Rouge. Shocking, I tell you.

Kinda hard to believe that nobody wants to put their life on the line for a starting salary somewhere between 30-40k a year in a city that is as violent as BR.

I don’t find it weird at all. If people knew how stupid you could be and still get a job there as long as you fit the right demographic then quite a few would be signing up. Unfortunately, most of these people have criminal backgrounds that prevent them from qualifying.

I’ll say this though. BRPD is a waste of money. Their traffic control is terrible. Their investigation skills are pitiful. The only thing they are good at doing is writing tickets to operators of motor vehicles. That starting salary is what they deserve with the operation Chief Dumbass has in place. Additionally, those officers work overtime and do private detail and make a great living. Don’t be fooled by the bull shite propoganda put out by the leftist newspaper.

I could go on all day about how BRPD doesn’t care about crime. You know why they don’t patrol North Baton Rouge? I do.

I think the biggest factor is the shitty starting pay. If they paid better, they'd have more qualified applicants.

The hostility isn't helping, though. That's for sure.

Well hopefully there will soon be some vacancies at the St George Police Department if BRPD's finest are tired of being target practice. I'm sure it gets a little tiring driving into the hood to investigate a shooting where "nobody saw nuthin'" - only to he followed up by "these cops don't help solve anything..."

yet they use what they have to take time to set up shop to hand out tickets for stop sign "violations" on bennington (set up .5 mi away and tell you, we saw you didn't come to a complete stop at 2pm in the afternoon (cut through from Perkins/animal hospital to Shell station on college)

Never change BRPD

There is absolutely no reason to become a police officer. Pay is shite and you have to worry about some ghetto piece of shite shooting you every time you make a stop

It’s problem all over. They have a job that’s is increasingly difficult within current administrations and also a pr problem within the community.. they are charged with smear impossible task and respond accordingly which makes citizens of all stripes frustrated

I'll say it again, wall N BR up. Have the stale bread truck back up to wall daily and throw over bread. Others can throw over their left overs. Leave one opening for a mule drawn carriage to go in and gather the dead.

It is not worth the pay.
The job market strong and $33k not worth the BS.
You can work construction and make more with less headaches.

It’s a nationwide problem. It’s a combination of low unemployment and salary. In Monroe County, Florida the sheriff’s department has almost 50 openings and they closed one of their jails because of the employee shortage. I believe the starting salary is around $47k per year with excellent benefits and retirement.

I'm shocked that after 8 years of having a Presidential Administration show open hostility to law enforcement while simultaneously hosting groups at the White House that not only encouraged the death of police officers, but also went out and followed up with it.

Not to mention all the false narratives, cities burned, etc.

Totally didn't see this coming at all.

When you look at it from a BR perspective, our current governor was more than happy to work with Obama and bring all the marching here as well.

Couple that with the current mayor, and well...
