No they didn't. Asik and Ajinca made $15M, which is no where near 30% of the cap.

What wing would they have gotten had they not resigned Asik? They were already over the cap at that point when they resigned him.
Look, I was against the Asik resigning more than anyone on this site, but that did not hinder us to the point of what happened today. and the intial trade for Asik was not a bad trade. We couldn't have anticipated his knees turning into fettuccini alfredo.
First big mistake was the resigning of EG instead of S&T, and the second big mistake was hiring a proven loser in Gentry. Solo not working out and his ridiculous contract hurt a lot, but more than half the teams in the NBA handed out a stupid contract like that back then.

So you’re trying to tell me that two of the most fricking dead weight immediately untradeable contracts for duplicative skill set 5s when your best player should be playing 5 at a time the league was getting smaller and more agile wouldn’t have helped a team that STILL hasn’t found a productive wing?!

Not trading Gordon to Suns for the Lakers 1st rd pick, their 2013 1st and Robin Lopez.
Could still make the deal for Holiday plus have an extra 2013 pick for either Greek Freek or Mccollum.
Would still make deal for Asik but instead of resigning just trade a fake 2nd to bucks for Zaza when the mavs and clips were fighting over Jordan. Zaza was on a 1 yr 5 mil deal so when Asik asks for 5 years you tell him gtfo.
Don't hire Gentry.
Don't sign Hill for 48 mil when you can just have Ennis for 2 yrs 6 mil. Same talent level so why pay so much more?

At no point did I say that. I was very very very very very adamant about not resigning Asik at the time.
You haven't answered my question. What wing were they going to get instead of resigning Asik? My point is yeah resigning him was terrible, but it's not like it prevented us from signing some competent wing player.
I also had been saying that they should have told AD to shut the hell up and play the 5. I was told many times I was an idiot for being so against the the Asik resigning and telling AD he's playing the 5 and we don't give a shite if he doesn't want to.

it doesn’t matter who they were gonna get at the time. It matters that 15 million in cap space was dead. Immovable. Inflexible. Unable to be used to buy expiring contracts, angle for picks, gradually work their way into serviceable 3s, and instead forced the pels into settling for mediocre PGs, and Solomon Hill.
You can’t have dead space in this NBA. all the teams that are competing are constantly churning incrementally bettering their draft position and players.
This front office has butchered ADs career. They should’ve put all of their eggs into finding a capable back court partner.

Better management and HC. People will scream he would have left regardless because N.O. is small market but look over at the Spurs management and Pop at HC. Front office need to be cleaned out this will continue to happen even if get Zion and same people at top and HC.

Asik was fine his 1st year here. Monty was fired after the season though. Gentry wanted Asik back.

I just thought about this. Davis is turning down 48M a year and the chance to be a lengendary player in our city's history for slightly more money (?) and to be 2nd banana to Lebron James or Kyrie Irving. I think that says a lot more about him than it does about the Pelicans FO. No matter what he does the rest of his career, he will never displace those organizations' legendary players. He will be just another guy that played for them and maybe has a couple of rings. Its sad and I don't get it. But its his choice..

I’d say that the Tyreke trade set us back far more than anyone wants to admit.
We pretty much shipped out Robin Lopez, Grevis Vasquez, and other assets for Evans, creating holes bigger than the one he didn’t fill.
