Damn I wish I could have gotten one of those 45-70s.

That's an easy decision---buy BOTH! You'll find a good use for the one you decide not to keep for yourself.
Some years ago I bought 3 Stevens Model 200 rifles, all in 270 Win at an Academy clearance sale for $180 each. The Stevens was being discontinued, to be replaced by the Axis. I put all 3 to good use. First one was converted to 221 Remington Fireball for prairie dog hunting. Second was used a deer rifle gift from the men of our church to our pastor. Last one was made into a 20 Practical (basically a 204 Ruger using 223 Remington brass) for prairie dog hunting.

My first gun was a savage .243 and it’s still a solid gun.
Are these fairly easy to upgrade? Like the trigger and maybe a wood stock? Doesn’t need to be amazing but would like a good 250 yard beater gun I enjoy.

Save your time. Denham and Siegen did not have them

Boyds are about the only place to get a wood stock that I know of. Look to pay 150-180.00 for one. Fctory trigger can be tweaked and Timney makes one for about 120.00. I had 2 Axis' and both shot extremely well. Both were MOA with factory shells and the 270 Hardwood I had would shoot .3-.5 MOA with handloads.

if you show the ad to academy, they will beat it by 5% and are more likely to have it in stock

Looks like the run they had in august a couple years ago. So annoying living in northern Virginia for things like this. Almost none of the stores sell rifles

A buddy of mine bought the 30-06 and the first shot was a misfire. He has shot about 20 times since with no problem and once he got the scope sighted in, he has been very accurate with it.

I really don’t need them but it sure is hard at that price lol. I’m saving for a good thermal tho...

Showing 397.00 at stores near me...according to that link at least

I can personally guarantee none are available in the greater BR area. Except for cortana walmart.

Did you click to find your local stores? Because the price is $397 and then goes to $199 for me when I search my zip for local stores.

Well it has changed now. When I searched before it showed results for both, not it doesn’t pull up anything. Maybe WM pulled the plug on the item number?

It was down for me at one point but back up locally now for me FYI.
