Someone breaks into your house while you’re not home

Through your genius ways, you know with a 95% degree of certainty of who this criminal is. It turns out it’s someone you’ve been acquaintances with for a couple of years. It’s reported to the cops but they don’t do jack shite. Thanks BRPD! What’s your next step without breaking any laws?
For those of you more willing to break laws that do not result in great bodily harm or some other extreme violence, what are your next steps?

You have proof or just a hunch?

shite on their door step. But not all at once. Slowly work my way up to bigger and bigger shits until one day I let out an explosive post-Taco Bell behemoth all over his doorstep, doorknob, doorbell, everything.

I mean, you can’t just kick someone’s door in. Do you have proof of who did it? They can ask him questions, but they can’t do shite without a warrant.

That’s a weird number. Either you know or you don’t.
If you know, rob him back.

This same scenario occurred to my inlaws a year ago.
House broken into while out of town. A bit of certainty as to who did it (maybe 50%) , cops do ZERO effort to look for criminal.

Have a security system with cameras and never have the problem to begin with.

Go get your shite back if you know who it was

Blackmail them through a social media Alias and get them to admit it then give it to the cops.

This happened to me in college. My roommate and I suspected a guy who lived across the parking lot from us. I went and told him I suspected it was him and it better never happen again.
Fortunately, I was bigger so he didn't try anything. He moved away shortly thereafter and I never got my things back. Really not much I could do because I wasn't going to risk going to jail over a tv/microwave/stereo.

Take things into your own hands, as far as you are willing to go. If you know who did it, go confront them yourselfs. The police are not going to worry themselves about it.
When I was a teenager, someone broke into our backyard and into my dad's shop. My mom happened to look out the window that night, saw them, grabbed her gun, went outside and they were hauling as into the field behind out house. She calls the police, they filed a report and asked if she had the serial number of the bike written down because otherwise there isn't much they can do.
A few days later she was outside and saw this dude on a bike that looked like hers. She went follow him. He went to the hospital (which wasn't that far from where we lived). He put his bike up against the building and was being let in through a side door. She waited for him to go in, went grab the bike and put it in the truck and left. She called the police who filed the report and told him he could take the report off file because she did his job for him. She told him what she did and he told her "you can't do that if you are not sure it was your bike" she told him "it looked like mine, that's good enough".

I would like to think that anyone I bring into my home wouldn’t break into my home while I’m not home, but if they did my first reaction would be to frick them up but in today’s world I would probably end up in jail. Just remember that revenge is a dish best served cold.
