As far as the property, most policies will have a "watercraft" coverage.
And its usually only about $1500 limit on watercraft and trailers unless your carrier offers a special rider to increase it.

And if not, check your auto policy.

OP really needs a separate watercraft policy to get any decent insurance payout. Which it sounds like he had, just maybe not quite enough coverage since he apparently forgot to bump up his coverage after installing a new motor.

Nope, 25hp and under they will but typically HO deductible negates much recovery.

If NOPD responded on a stolen boat in less than 4 hours, I'd call that a win.

And those frickers actually wrote a report? I'm happy for you.

My ex got her credit card skimmed at either Dorignac's or the Shell station. She saw fraudulent activity almost immediately (she's a banker and very security conscious) and had the card blocked. She called JPSO because she works in JP and it happened in JP. The cop was knocking on the door of her office in less than 15 minutes. Everything is going smoothly until he asked for the billing address. She responds and he says, "I have some bad news. You're going to have to work with NOPD." (She lives in Orleans Parish)

She called me to tell me what happened. It was around noon on a Tuesday or Wednesday. I told her to call NOPD right away and maybe they would get there before she went to bed. She didn't want to do that because she wouldn't be home from work until 5:30 or 6:00. She called NOPD, explained what happened, and said she'd come by the station to file a report after work. No sale. There told her that a patrolman would have to come to her house. So when she got home about 5:45, she called then again. By 9:00 - her regular bedtime because she gets up at 4:30 to go run every morning - no cops. She called me and asked what to do. I said go to bed, they may never show up. At 10:30, we had the same conversation, except this time she listened to me (or more likely, was exhausted). Sometime around midnight her phone rang. It was NOPD. They were at her house to take the report.

The cop was apologetic, professional and very polite. Nothing bad to say about that guy, he was just working for a fricked up bureaucracy.

Overall, I didn't think an approximately 6 hour wait time was that bad for NOPD, considering the nature of th crime. My truck was burglarized once and I waited ~10 hours from about 8:00 on a Sunday morning until ~6:00 that evening. They never did show up.

I once waited 4 hours for NOPD to respond....after they hit me... I dialed 911 an hour into it - that may have increased the response time.

Have you contacted your carrier and filed a claim yet? I would have the bills of sale for both motor and TM scanned and send to adjuster. They should cover the new equipment since it was attached to your insured boat. Might need to pay difference in premium of prior and current but that's not a big deal. I would tell ya to pm me but this site has no such animal. Hope you have a good agent and your policy is agreed value.
Good Luck

Yeah I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that its not very likely the insurer is going to allow someone to retroactively increase coverage and just pay the premium difference AFTER a loss already occurred.

if the locals are anything like the pros in Florida your outboard is already pulled and sold. they don’t want the boat just the outboard and sometimes the trailer

My buddy had his boat stolen in the River Ridge area from his shop. They stripped the boat of the motor and all electronics and left the boat in new Orleans when they were done. I want to say it was the following day.

Where is the original motor that was insured? Hint, it was replaced with the current new motor. OP has a bill of sale and probably the charge to hang new motor so what were they insuring? I will bet they will cover both TM and motor, may take some talking but it should happen. This is the shiate you pay your agent for and learn if he is the real deal or not.

They will. But if its an agreed value policy then OP’s claim settlement will be based on their agreed value with OLD motor and TM because he mentioned earlier that he forgot to increase his coverage when he got the new motor and TM
