Bio hacking?

Any of y’all engage in this practice as a whole? And I’d define it vauguely as listening to alternative medicine people and guests on prominent podcasts as a means to better treat yourself whether it be diet, mental health(meditation), or things such as strengthening you immune system. I do it a good bit as I’ve become disillusioned by what the modern entertainment complex and media have to offer me. What people do you you follow and practices do you engage in?

Yes I live a fasting focused lifestyle and eat a ketogenic WOE. I track omega 6 va omega 3 ratios and stay away from highly inflammmatory foods.

Also some of the people I follow in this realm:
Dr. James Dinicolantonio
Dr. Ben Bikman
Dr. Jason Fung
Dr. Ted Naiman
Dr. Dom D’Agostino
One of the best places to hear all this information and the guy is a pretty good interviewer is on the High Intensity Health YouTube channel run by Mike Mutzel...

Nice! I’ve listened to a good bit of Dom D’Augustino. I also do the intermittent fasting (16-8) and follow Rhonda Patrick and Peter Atia a good bit. I don’t do Keto as I’m a triathlete (want some healthy carbs in my diet), but I do follow a very alkaline/low acidic diet with lots of clean fiber and healthy fats.

No such thing as bio hacking, all marketing bullshite.
There are health benefits t certain diets but as far as weight loss goes, it's calories in vs out, been proven a thousand times. What ever tools you use to get there is on you.
I personally use IF with some longer fasting thrown in and when trying to cut I will cut carbs as it's easier for me to control nutrition that away.

that’s not true from my “anecdotal” experience. I can eat 3000 calories on a strict ketogenic WOE and that’s my maintenance. I am currently running a 50/49/1 protocol now at 2500 calories and gaining weight. All the other variables have remained constant such as exercise frequency, intensity, etc.
Many, many other people have this same experience. There are studies that are beginning to show a metabolic advantage for the ketogenic diet.

I used Bio Hacking for lack of better terms more or less. The current medical industry wants to give you drugs and perform surgeries to make money once problem is here, but never does anything on the preventative end. When it comes to fighting inflammation in the body they offer nothing except pills. When it comes to fighting mental health they suggest you pay hundreds to some hack whose life is probably more fricked than your own. So I guess I just probing people as to the alternative/unconventional mental and physical health practices they pursue.

Right now I’m really exploring the benefits of saunas and longevity. I first heard about it through Dr. Rhonda Patrick.

If cold adaptation is bio hacking. Sure. There are cognitive and stress relief benefits to cold exposure.
What the hell, I’ve listen to Ben Greenfield in the past, he is the definition of bio hacking...

I’ve gotten into the cold adaptation thing lately. I’ve been doing the Wim Hof breathing for a month now and love it. It is great by itself, but I use it often to lead into a long meditation. I started taking nothing but cold showers a couple weeks ago and was really into it then decided to take an ice bath. I messed up and took the ice bath for 20 minutes and got sick as shite!lol Considering trying a shorter one again though in a few weeks when I’m back healthy.

You're gonna do all that shite and miss out on living in the moments to add 9 months to your life. Meanwhile some old fart that drinks whiskey every day and smokes is gonna outlive you because genetics.

Not really. It fits my lifestyle nicely and the alternative of being a fat disgusting slob isn’t really my cup of tea.

There are many alternatives that don't involve being a fat slob.

Can you post any of these studies because every science guru that is diet based disagrees and I have never seen a study that shows this once calories and protein are accounted for.
On your own experience is protein staying the same on both?

Yep, 100% and it will never change
find a diet you like and can sustain, prioritize protein, and let the rest of the calories come from wherever you want.
The reason you are losing weight is whatever diet you are on, at the end of the day you are taking in less calories than you are burning.
It goes against the laws of physics and science to lose weight if you eat more than you burn.

Look, calorie deficiency is key to weight loss but I will say this; based on my education and experience that where the remaining calories come from is important. If my protein is dialed in and constant, it matters if I only consume simple carbs (sugar) vs complex carbs. Or even if I consume fat vs. carbs. Not all calories are processed the same in a body. Try eating 1500 calories of candy vs 1500 calories of veggies with a constant adequate level of protein then exercise at a level where caloric intake is at a deficit. You will lose weight with both but see which gives better results. I have done the experiment on myself, eating clean vs. processed crap but kept track of calories, protein, and exercise. Clean won and still wins for me. And eating clean is a broad term, I define it as eating minimal processed foods and focusing on whole food.
I have done Keto, Paleo, and focused on just eating whole foods. They all worked fine even though I prefer keto. Eating highly processed and sugar rich diets didn't work nearly as good. Bottom line, is everyone pick your own way but to say all calories are created equal is not accurate.... and I don't need to read some steady to prove me wrong. Over the past 50 yrs we have been told so much crap by "health studies" that contradict each other its sickening. Remember, figures lie and liars figure. You be your own lab rat and stick with what works.

The reason that is reductionist is because a calorie is a measure of energy. CICO doesn't speak at all to the way your body utilizes energy.
