1800 is way more space than one needs starting out

But that doesn't make any sense to use the term "starter" b/c you can have a luxury home that is less than 1800 sq ft.

A family of 4 can live comfortably in an 1800 square foot home.

I thought 3100 was too big when we bought it. Get kids friends over running in and out it feels like a small tent.

Depends on lifestyle and needs. I can’t wait to go back to a smaller place in a few years

working on plans for our 2500sf home. i told my father in law the SF and he basically thinks we're building the biltmore estate "you're gonna hate how big it is when the kids move out"...

i agree. i'd even say 5. we have 1800 SF but it was built in a time before closets were invented. If it was laid out better, no doubt we would be staying.

Over 3500 sq ft

We have 3200 heated....just the 2 of us now....will be downsizing very soon.

I'm going to build a 40x100 metal building, and facade the front to look like conventional, and interior wall off into a 40x50 living area, and have a 40x50 ManShack, all on one slab.

I've been researching/planning this for about 10 years, and you can find some mild to wild designs.

I agree with this.

My wife and I live in a 2800 sq/ft house that is way too big for just us 2. If we had 2 kids, I wouldn't think it was "large", though.

Without taking that into consideration, I'd say 3500+ sq/ft is what I would consider "large".

I see all the big fancy brick houses around and often wonder how and why. I remembered a school lesson from high school home keeping class that was required. Buy a home that cost your annual salary and plan to pay it off in 20 years. If ya out grow it sell it and by then ya salary should be bigger so bigger house if not live crowded till ya can afford bigger.

Worked we;ll for me.

MrSmith65 are you doing a quonset hut turned into a house or just a regular metal structure?

If it takes you 20 years to pay off a mortgage that is equal to what you make in a year, you're doing it very wrong.

also, that's an absurd rule that you could never follow living in an urban area.

Any home with higher than 10’ ceilings on the bottom floor is large.

Anything smaller than the Biltmore is a shack.
