We downsized to a super small home when our kids moved out. Due to the flood we bought a regular size house again (@2k) and now we always have guests in our guest room. I want my small (@1k) house back!!!

Large is at least 3k.

I’m at 3300 sq ft and would prefer larger but that is just more shite you have in your house. I’ve been in houses with less sq ft and felt like those houses were larger. Guess it depends on the layout. When the kids are gone I’ll look forward to downsizing.

2,800 + is a large house. Unless you have 4 or 5 kids, I never really understand the point to go above 2,500 sq ft. Just a lot of empty, unused space that you have to fill up with stuff.

I grew up in a 3500 square foot home and it was a very nice house but I would never want anything that big. My house now 1860 square feet but will want something a little bigger when we continue to grow our family

Totally depends on where you live, from personal experience:

In rural Louisiana maybe its over 3.5K
In BR suburbs (Central, Zachary, Denham, Prarieville) maybe its over 3K
In Metairie its probably over 2.5K
In Orleans proper eastbank I consider anything over 2K a large residence
In DC proper its probably the same, anything over 2K
In Manhattan anything over 1K is balling

Depends on location.

Atlanta house was 2k, we just moved into a 3.2k sq ft house in Germantown.

Price was slightly higher in Germantown but I wouldn’t have been able to buy this house in Atlanta at 32.

We're building our first house in Collierville, right near the Germantown line, approx 4,000 sq/ft. You can get a ton for your money here. Same goes, we probably would have bought a little over half this size in Louisiana if we had stayed there.

Lot of really large homes here that are very cheaply built. I've seen many large 5,000+ sq ft that I don't find impressive at all.
