Question about jury duty

Got a summons in the mail today for jury duty. I was able to get out of it twice in college because I was a student so I’m unfamiliar with how it works.
It says the “on call” period is from 1/14/19-1/25/19. I have a work trip out of state from 1/21-1/25 that I’ve already booked and paid for. Is that a viable excuse to get out of jury duty if I explain the situation and provide my itenerary with purchase date?
FWIW I have no problem doing my civic duty. I’d go without a fuss if I didn’t already have a trip booked. It’s a pretty important project for work.
Does “on call” mean I have to be in town and available at all times during that date range?
Does it help any that I’m submitting a request about a month ahead of time instead of waiting until the last minute?
TIA

Call the Clerk of Courts and tell them you’ll be out of town for work on those dates.

Just call and tell them you have an International KKK rally that week and can’t attend.
No way will anyone want you on their jury.

It should be, but it may just be postponed to another date.

Yes. You call in usually the night before and they tell you whether you need to show up in the morning or not.

Our weekly jury duty thread.
If the summons came via regular mail, then they can’t prove you received it and therefore you can ignore it without fear.
Otherwise, some jurisdictions will simply let you reschedule.

If you read the letter you got you would See that you call every day after 5pm and enter your # and they will tell you if you need to show up or not

Just don't go. No consequences for me skipping 3 times so far.

Yeah.. I read that django. But if I’m 4 states away and call in the evening and they say I need to be there the following morning.. what do you propose?

Cut the trip short and Hop on the quickest plane back home..
Seriously, just call and tell them you cannot serve during that time and they will excuse or reschedule you. The lady I asked over the phone didn’t even ask why I wouldn’t be able to serve

This is exactly correct. I had to do this once and during the call I offered to send them a copy of my travel plans and even offered that I could attend jury duty the following week. They thanked me for the call and said not to worry about it.

Ask them if the defendant is black

What he was saying is: Yes.

Yes, explain the situation to them. They may just move you to the next call in period.

Tell them “if the police arrested him he’s guilty of something”.
