I’m pretty sure I’m not a MAWIL (middle-aged woman in Lycra), a term coined in a new report into cycling as the female counterpart to the much more common MAMIL (middle-aged man in Lycra). But at 42 (is that middle-aged?), with two kids under my belt, I may be inadvertently ticking all the Mawil boxes.

At intersections, while waiting at a red light, I’ve noticed male cyclists ride straight past me, and stop in front of me, to be first off when the light changes. I catch them quickly and wonder, as they slow, why they bothered.

Dudes, don’t assume you’re better or faster than us, please. Encourage us. Include us.

I lent my first carbon road bike to a friend, and after one ride she signed up for the High Country Women’s Cycling Festival in March 2019 - a supported ride for women up Mt Buffalo. Women: it’s that good. Men: encourage us.

I call BS, I clearly read something about stopping at a red light. When did cyclists start doing this?

First of all, who cares about some lady getting her feelings hurt because she’s genetically inferior.

Second, I’m ready for a violent war between bikes and motor vehicles to finally break out. We can’t peacefully coexist. It’s time for natural selection to decide who rules the streets.

Translation : "I get irrationally angry, and pedal to the point of nearly passing out to catch up to them in an effort to prove that I am just as physically capable as a man. I'm normal. They are not."

I noticed this, too. You can't be a "real" cyclist unless you ignore red lights then complain when you nearly get steamrolled by the lady in the Yukon (who actually had the green light) who's running late taking her kids to school.

Actually, its typically the seasoned riders you see complaining about people who dont follow the traffic laws. I've heard complaints of bad riding from other rider as much as I hear it here. The bad ones just stick out more.

I saw two Mormons riding in the middle lane on Essen last night.

That's a special kind of stupid.

I recently read a story about Freddie Mercury, until now that had been the gayest thing I've ever read.

Another case of Denis Leary being ahead of the curve.

He did a routine in the 90s about the bullshite from cyclists such as them yelling at him for invading “my space” by opening a cab door to get out.

“I have a whistle. Tweet tweet. Well I have a horn. Honk honk you’re dead!”

People that have less that a 15 mile commute to work need to stop being fat. Put the keys down and start peddling.

Having to go through the hood to get there makes a car necessary regardless of distance.

So is this like a regular cycling festival, but just slower and less athletic?

I'm all geared up for a good old fashioned OT cyclist thread.
