OT Mechanics - new tire balance problems

ill try to be brief. i purchased 4 new Continental 275/55/20 tires and had them installed on my 2015 GMC 1/2 ton (2wd, no mods, replacing with same exact tires that were on truck when i rolled off the lot). my first time at interstate speeds, my center console is rattling. bring truck back, shop removes and rebalances all 4. back to interstate, same problem.
i bring truck back a second time and the shop replaces 2 of the tires (rear). according to the shop owner, rattling in the center console indicates rear out of balance. back on the interstate, there is rattling, but it seems to be on the floorboard.
for a second opinion, i go to a shop with a spinner that can spin the front wheels of the truck while on the truck. im there when the tech spins them and there is a noticeable shake, on both front tires, left much worse. Back off to the original shop and he sends me to an Allied Discount Tire & Brake for a balance job, at his cost. After balancing, the Allied manager gets the truck to 75 on interstate and comes back and reports no shake. My original shop rep and i then both get in and get truck to 90 mph for about 5 miles. there is a very slight shimmy but not near as bad. At this point i feel like i was hyper-vigilant and the shake was nothing out of the ordinary at high speed. i tell him its good, drop him off at original shop and am on my way
the Truck has now started to shake again in the center console at speeds of 75 mph and up, though not quite as bad as the original shake. Im looking for any diagnosis from anyone here with experience. is it possible the 2 front tires, which are still original new tires, are out-of-round? Should i just take it to the best shop i can find for a 3rd opinion balance job? any opinions are appreciated.

All they did was a balance during this ordeal?
Did they check to see if maybe you needed a front end alignment?

Tires can be bad from the factory. Tell the original shop to get you a new set.

Dann. Sounds like a fricking pita. I'd guess the tires are bad. I've had tires that caused the truck to pull and give a slight shake but you couldn't tell they were bad from inspection. Though they were old tires.

2 of the original new tires were replaced, then 2 balance jobs total. i have not inquired about an alignment but will do that. however the truck drove perfectly when i brought it in for the new tires. could the tire job have knocked something out of alignment?

Talk to the shop about replacing them. They just have to tell Continental they are a bad set

I have the same issue on my '14. My rattle really starts at 75mph. I've balanced and it may be a temporary fix, but it always seems to come back. When i got new tires, the problem seemed to be fixed only to return later. If you do some googling you notice it is a problem on the 14's & 15's. I don't think i have ever seen a definitive fix in the searching I've done.

There is no reason NOT to try to get the front tires replaced as well. As stated, that should be a big deal for the shop. The can return as defective. Its worth a shot and is probably the issue TBH

My brand new 2017 Silverado had the chevy shake issue. It was annoying but not terrible. After reading up about the issue, I realized there was not a 100% reliable solution and that bringing it back to the dealership would probably just be a PITA and them giving me the runaround. So I just lived with it, wasn't a big deal. Well, fast forward 50K miles and I get a brand new set of 4 tires, and voila shake is gone. I was shocked because most things I read about it said that new tires didn't solve it.
I had the same exact symptoms. Right around 75 mph and up noticeable shaking originating in the center console.

A good tire shop can tell if a tire is out of round the first time they try to balance the tire.

I know what this may be. If the shop that installed the tires had a lot of moisture in the lines or just had new lines or compressor work done you can get a small amount of water in the tires. It only takes an ounce or 2 to throw a tire out of balance at highway speeds. And they way it acts it will move around inside the tire causing it to vibrate intermittently and at different speeds. I have actually seen this happen a couple of times in my career. Just re-balancing won't fix it because the water keeps moving around. I have actually seen it come out as a good size little puddle!

I agree with this. Commercial air compressor holding tanks can accumulate a lot of moisture in just 24 hours. Most places don't ever drain these tanks regularly, either. When having to depend on compressed air to operate pneumatic tools or machines, I would ALWAYS drain the pressure holding tank first. Saved me a lot of headaches.

Or at least put an in-line filter between the compressor and hose outlet. I have one of them in my home shop and it works great.

I have the best alignment, wheel and tire guy in SWLA at my shop. A lot of the local mechanics send their alignments to my shop. I can’t advertise here but if you call Meade’s Automotive or Clyde’s in the AM, they’ll get you in touch with me.

I would try to rotate the tires OP. That will move the front to the back. If it stops or changes, well there you go. Takes a shop with a lift 5 minutes to do for you.

Thank you all. Bringing it back in the morning, will ask about new tires and humid air in the tire. Whats the fix for moisture in the tire? Simple decompress and refill with dryer air?
