If we can't reduce the debt with a booming economy, we never will

Wouldn't a booming economy be the time to reduce the deficit? Do we even care anymore? Will we ever cut deficit spending?
Or do we just keep increasing the debt ceiling every few years, like we have for the past few decades?

We will never pay off the debt. It doesn't benefit those in power. There will have to be some kind of wholesale financial and currency reset at some point down the line.

This is one of the biggest disappointing things about Trump.
I am on board for most of his stuff but I really thought he would make an effort to reduce spending.

Why would the bankers making trillions who control the nation do that?

It's time for Uncle Sam to have a garage sale.

Neither side is interested in reducing debt. One day it will actually destroy the country no different than other collapses we have seen.
The worst thing to happen in DC in my lifetime was when both parties stopped fighting each other over every dime. Now they don't even care about billions.
Just going back a decade and watch The West Wing. On that show which was written by some of the Washington pundits / Sorkin / Wells, they argued over millions.
In a very short time it went from arguing over millions to arguing over billions, then for the most part, they stopped arguing completely. The shutdown threats never materialize so both sides know it is nothing more than posturing. They truly have stopped fighting over the budget.
I knew I was done with Republicans when they gave a budget to Obama to sign and he was happy. Neither side should be happy. They should both be left wanting. it isn't their fricking money.

I'm not sure our creditors would allow that. Maybe the U.S. can declare bankruptcy. ??

Neither party cares about reducing spending. They just want to fight about what to spend it on.
If our populace would elect a goober like Rand Paul we would see some change, but a reality star or eloquent black man are more entertaining.

No economy can reverse this until spending is reduced across the board 10% and then frozen for 5 years. Do that and then let’s see where we are.

We won’t do anything about the debt ...we’re Japan 2.0.

Will we ever cut deficit spending?
Think of it his way. Had we kept the 2006 Bush budget, we’d be running a massive surplus, and a sizeable portion of our debt would paid off at this point.
Remember how small the government was in 2006? Remember all the people dying in streets? Remember how we didn’t have a military back then? Remember our complete lack of “infrastructure”?
Yeah I don’t either.

Re-strengthening the Obama depleted military & infrastructure are currently much more important.

Can we sell California to pay off our debt. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I would vote for Paul and would have for his papa. But we are where we are.

In times of war national debt is put on the back burner.
Trump is planning a restructuring of the entire monetary system. Our dept will maybe be wiped clean or maybe the Soros and Rothschild money will be taken to cut the debt in half.
I don't know exactly what the plan is but Trump doesn't seem to mind running the debt up which seems to be counter to what he does everywhere else. I think he knows it is all paper that will soon be worthless or something.

Tell congress to send President Trump an actual budget (something that has not been passed since 2009) that reduces the deficit and he would sign it in a heartbeat.

This is true but let’s not pretend Trump isn’t part of the problem. He doesn’t give a damn about the debt. Every politician knows cutting the deficit isn’t a winning strategy. We will ride this gravy train until we pay for it bigly. The pain will be sharp and severe.

And most of Congress along with Trump will likely be dead (or senile) by the time the shite hits the fan.
