Thoughts on the Christmas vs Happy Holidays argument?

The original reason for the holiday was for religious reasons but then nonreligious people picked up on the holiday as a reason to buy and give gifts. And now the same people who stole a holiday don't want people to call the holiday by its proper name, how does this make sense?
I know the original reason for Christmas did not revolve around giving gifts but that's what it has turn into, that's not the point of this discussion
ETA: I'm not one to care whether a person says one or other. Some people just jump on your case when you say Merry Christmas even though it's just habit and not intentional.

I am unbothered by the Marry Christmas/Happy Holidays thing. Say/celebrate what you want and let others do the same.

I think you have this backwards.

Don't care. Either is fine with me.

To me “the holidays” is the time between Thanksgiving and New Years. I do t understand why both can’t be acceptable. The whole war on Christmas shite is just a scare tactic.

Don't care if you say Marry Xmas or Happy Holidays, just give a damn drink!

I don’t really care. In my business life I walk the narrow line and just do the happy holiday thing.
In personal life I dont care and use Merry Christmas.

First of all you can't "steal" a holiday. Folks using christmas as an excuse to give gifts and get sloshed on boozy egg nog has ZERO EFFECT on your life.
Second, correcting someone when they try to wish "happy holidays" is a dick move. And purposefully/snidely saying "merry christmas" to someone you know for a fact doesn't celebrate is also a dick move.
Don't be a dick for the holidays.

If someone says Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, it's because they are being nice...if you get upset at either it's because you're being a snowflake

It was a pagan festival for worshiping the sun, which I guess is religious.

Christians stole the holiday from pagans and the Roman festival of the sun as just another propaganda tool to spread a fairy tale.
With that said, I say Merry Christmas.

I'm not bothered when anybody wishes me happy holidays, and nobody should be bothered when I wish them merry Christmas. They're not pushing their beliefs on me and I'm not pushing mine on them.

call it whatever YOU want to call it.

when I lived in south FL, saying Merry Christmas could be said almost anywhere with a guarantee of offending the majority of people within earshot
Posted on 11/15/18 at 2:39 pm to al_cajun
I say Christmas but people who get bent out of shape for wither are people I don't want to associate with in real life.

happy holidays. it covers the entire season

I have no problem with people saying happy holidays. To me it's just a general saying that includes Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the New Year.

christmas was founded as a day of celebration to celebrate the birth of christ, that is why its called christmas
the level of denial about this FACT is simply astounding
