The perfect system:
1. Go back to 11 regular season games
2. Bring back BCS rankings
3. 8 team playoff
4. Each major conference champ gets in
5. Highest ranked Group of 5 Champ gets in
6. Highest ranked non-conference champs get remaining spots
7. Quarterfinals played on campus of higher seeds
8. Bama gets auto bid

I know people love complaining about the committee, but is there a year where they haven't gotten it right?

I hope the knuckleheads in favor of this right now see it's a bad idea with Northwestern, Pitt, and ASU/Ariz/Utah having chance to win their conferences this year.

No but there are a few years where people are mad that they got it right

I would be a fan of expanding the playoff and cutting the regular season down to 10 games. 5 home, 5 away.
Why would most teams agree to that? Vast majority of teams know they’ll never compete for a playoff spot, at least not on a regular basis. So why would they agree to cut their schedule down 2 games (and lose out on some revenue), just so a small handful of teams every year can not play 16 games?

Do away with all the bowl games. Go to a 16 team playoff. Contract FBS football to 8 fourteen team conferences. All 8 conference champions get in on an auto bid. 8 at large bids, no at large team could host a playoff game over an auto bid. Revenue share like March Madness.

awesome.. ruin cfb even more. playoffs are dumb to begin with, much less letting more and more in

I think those knuckleheads believe a playoff team should be able to beat NW, Pitt, or Utah. And if they don't, that's ok too. What's wrong with a little chaos?

That's fine, but you're throwing out body of work if teams like that were to get in over Clemson, Wazzu, OSU/Mich.

I personally wouldn't care if a 2-3 loss team got left out in favor of a 3-4 loss team that pulled the big upset. Truth is, it really doesn't happen that often anyways.

So, if expansion happens, it is essentially Affirmative Action for the Pac-12?
I'm not against it. I'd actually find an 8 team playoff entertaining. But it seems like it's motivated by the prospects of having 1-2 Power 5 conferences left out every year.

Next few days is throwing it off. They have sites for next 5 years already announced. I can see them saying expansion... then next day announce how many and format.

12 team is perfect. 4 byes. reseed once after 4 "play in games"

That is irrelevant when the system isn't set up to reward conference champs with an automatic berth.
Make it an automatic berth and leave it up to the conference to decide their own fate there. If you want unequal schedules and such, so be it.
A clear path to making the playoffs should be evident.

75% of the semifinal games have been 3 or more possession games. Not always won by the higher seed. I'm not saying the wrong teams are going, but this is hard to gloss over.

We know they are never going to rate a G5 conference winner #5 so unless that goes to the highest rated G5 winner that solves none of what people hate about the playoff.

Awful. There are not 112 teams worth being in the super conferences. Maybe 6 conferences of 14, but even that would be too many

A set up so perfect even Obama and Trump can agree.

Seems like most of the people bitching about Alabama "already being in" are also advocating an 8 team playoff.
My problem has always been this and it may be an issue this year with the 5 power 5 conference champs having 1 or fewer losses AND ND
That is 6 teams who have extremely viable reasons to get in.
It could be 6 teams who are undefeated. I know that has never happened, but why do we have a system where the best team could be sitting on its couch for the playoffs?
