I guess HRC comment on "They all look alike" should be taken in the same context.

Hayseed-Smith is a joke, but she'll get elected.

Public hangings are not the same as illegal lynchings. They are court-ordered executions. Abraham Lincoln ordered at least 39 public hangings. And the 4 convicted of Lincoln's assassination died by public hanging.

quote:

In 1862 President Abraham Lincoln sanctioned the hanging of 39 Sioux Indians convicted of murdering white settlers in Mankato, Minnesota.[11] This mass execution remains the largest of its kind in United States history.[10]

Four people were hanged for their participation in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Mary Surratt, one of the four, was the first woman to receive capital punishment by the United States federal government.

Smith made a poor choice. But her intent was not what is being hyped. She should set the record straight, and move on.

Smith will win but it will be closer than it should have been. Any Mississippian with a conservative bone in their body only has to look at Jones in Alabama, the moderate Jones of course. How did his vote on Kavanaugh turn out? He voted 100% with Schumer and will do so until he's beat in 2020. Espy will vote that way in spades.

She didn't say lynching. She said public hanging. Back in the day they used to hang people for all sorts of things that had nothing to do with race.

People are racist for assuming she was being racist.

Espy will NOT win. Mississippi is nothing if not consistent. The three G crowd will see to that. God, Guns, and the GOP that's the only way for me.

The only reason we even have a runoff is because McDaniel split the GOP vote.

MISSISSIPPI
Highest poverty rate.
Highest infant mortality rate.
5th highest unemployment rate.
3rd highest incarceration rate.
5th highest uninsured rate.

Thirty years of Republican senators and fourteen years of Republican governors. What a track record.

Honestly it's hard to argue against this.

But all that ever happens when you complain about it is some fricking redneck screaming "WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT THEN YOU CAN JUST LEAVE RREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

It will matter to those who were not going to vote for her. Otherwise, her base and those who have common sense will not be dissuaded.

Perhaps she should clarify her statement as referring to hung like a mule and not hung like a criminal.

Mississippi stopped using hanging as the state-sanctioned execution back in 1940. CHS was born in 1959. The last extralegal hanging in Mississippi was 1968. This is pretty much her tar baby. She didn’t necessarily mean it in a racist way, but it carries the racist meaning that comes with its historical context.

because a significant portion of the population is made up of malleable idiots who will believe anything the thoroughly corrupt media pours into their heads

I agree but Espy won about the same percentage as Cindy Hyde-Smith and many of McDaniel’s voters will not turn out for her because of intra-party squabbles. I think CHS wins this 53-47, but she absolutely endangered a sure win with this gaffe.

ETA: Just checked McDaniel’s social media to see if he’s defended CHS. He has not. That’s a big deal because he’s anti-PC and could rally his voters to support CHS. Very many of his supporters think that the state GOP is corrupt and won’t turn out to vote in the runoff. That’s a potential game changer.

I wonder if a certain percentage of McDaniel voters will turn out and vote for Espy as a big "frick you" to the GOP establishment.

Wasn’t she just making a lame joke

Well, it wasn’t a joke. It was a casual expression like “run around the bush” or “the horse is out of the barn.” It’s akin to saying in New York that someone is “such a Shylock.” It isn’t a joke.

What it does, however, is that it identifies her culturally as someone who doesn’t give a shite if her casual expressions are horrifying to the black citizens she hopes to represent. It’s a liability.
