The recent passage of Amendment 2 and Jason Williams running for DA have me concerned.

quote:

Williams, a defense attorney by trade, is betting that Orleans Parish voters have grown tired of the tough-on- crime approach and will pick someone who’s more progressive about shrinking the jail population.

quote:

There are policies “rooted from a bygone and racist era that only wanted to target poor blacks,” Williams said. “That exists. So we have to be honest about our past but look forward to polices that are just and follow the rule of law and make sure everyone’s constitutional rights are protected.”

Say what you will, but Cannizzaro doesn't put up with criminal bullshite. He's tough on crime, and I will always support him and his staff. But he's 73, and I'm not sure he will run again.

I thought attorneys went to law school, not trade school

Only if Eddie Jordan takes back the DAs office will we see lower crime rates and fewer arrests.

No shite. They elected a mayor under criminal investigation for embezzling funds for personal use.

How can we solve crime? I know! Stop prosecuting crimes and tear down the jails. If there are no laws, there can be no crime.

Can we just annex downtown/FQ/CBD into Jefferson Parish and let Orleans Parish rot?

Although he may be partially right, productive members of society have been fleeing Orleans Parish for Jefferson, St. Charles, and St. Tammany in droves.

Better idea is to create a new Parish called New Orleans East Parish so they can govern themselves and let the rest of Orleans clean itself up.

Just put FQ/CBD into Jefferson Parish. Then all of the money and conservative values in Jefferson Parish can work on improving and attracting businesses and revitalizing downtown. And Orleans Parish can work on their stated goals of less criminal conviction, more truth to power, more corruption, more crime, less jails, less statues, more taxes, more welfare, less education, more public housing, less private wealth, etc...

Nothing says tough on crime like the NOPD's 20% murder clearance rate or having tourists beat to shite

You do know these aren’t mutually exclusive? Especially if you’re bringing Eddie Jordan into the discussion.

73?? Damn I hope I’m half as spry as he is when I’m anywhere close to that age.

Knew this shite was coming when that SJW Latoya was elected (and Latoya is actually doing a better job than I expected).

The only thing that will work in Orleans Parish is:

Long Term economic development
Short term stop and frisk instituted

I haven't been to NOLA as often as I used to, but it seems to me like NOPD has ceded downtown to the state troopers. Is that an accurate observation?

So, the Parish is doomed.

I wouldn’t say they have ceded it, but that state police def have an increase presence down there. Which I’m fine with.
