Been to Acuna and Nuevo Laredo several times but way back in the 90's. Always wanted to go to Tijuana but I think I would pass in today's age.

I agreed to go on a 4 day trip to Rosarita Beach with about 12 or 15 guys in the Spring of 2000. As our BACs increased, it seemed like a good idea to drive back up to TJ for the sake of being able to say we went to TJ. As often happens, drunken decisions turn out to be bad ideas. We had some Mexican natives with us who, to a man, said it was a terrible idea, but the gringos overruled them.

In about 12 hours, I had more shite happen that I don’t ever want to have happen again in my life than I have had happen in my other 57 years on this planet combined. frick that place.

Had many a wild weekends in Tijuana in my younger years.

Back in the day $10 could get you a steak dinner, a bottle of Jack, and a hooker for the night.

Is it still safe to go to border towns? I've been to Tijuana, Matamoros, and Acuna but was under the impression that the days of being able to safely go over to the boys towns were over.

I spent 4 days there last year. If you stay off the shitty sides of town, it is a very enjoyable trip. The food was amazingly good and the alcohol was good and cheap. I highly recommend the TJ Marriott. Lunch at Caesar's was fantastic as were dinners at El Potrero Carnes. I would definitely go back when I had more time to explore the Baja coast.

Terrible place. Went back in the mid-90s while living in California and it was abject poverty. Kids selling chiclets as soon as you cross the border. What was not poor was touristy as hell.

On the positive side, you could get pretty much whatever you wanted for reasonable prices at the farmacia.

Took my brother once when he came out to visit and he kissed the ground upon returning to Los Estados Unidos.

My dad was in the Marines in the late 50's stationed at Camp Pendleton, I asked what he did in the corp and he said, "Tijuiana taxi driver." After his death I found out he was right.
