So what did Minny do to completely shut down the passing attack?

Disclaimer, I still think it's good when they show they can win games like this. Defense stepped up after a really rough start. Good team win.
But Drew couldn't get anything going with our receivers and TE's. Thomas had 81 yards but 44 of that was on a catch that really wasn't. Smith with 3 catches and only 18 yards. Zilch to our TE's. Everything seemed to go to the safety valve. How did Minnesota shut us down like that? They're a mid tier defense, passing ranked at 21. Was really weird to see last night.
They'll snap back in the dome against the Rams, I feel certain.

they gave the underneath and brees took it. their best db was out so they were conservative.

They mentioned it on the broadcast that they were basically playing the “umbrella” coverage they used in week 1 last year to take away anything deep and keep receivers in front of them. They dared the Saints to beat them with short-intermediate throws and runs. So they did.
Not a bad plan either. Take away the turnovers and it’s a different game. But they probably didn’t gameplan a red zone fumble and pick 6 lol

They hoped drew couldn't complete an insane percentage to keep the chains moving, they were wrong

It was the game plan.
There was an info graphic that showed 0 attempts for passes +20yds and like 3 for +10yds.

They turned the ball over (fumble, downs) and gave us short fields.

They played saints' brand prevent defense

I had the volume down all night so missed any of the chatter. And I stayed away from here.
I can see going with the underneath if that's what they are giving you, but didn't seem like we took advantage of it all. 18/23 for 120 yards. When was the last time we saw a Drew stat line like that?

I had a feeling when Hill came in on the opening drive he was finally gonna get to take a shot. I love what he brings to the offense

I think Vikings had a good game plan on D and honestly, as far as pass protection, I think our Oline struggled more than normal, at least as far as giving up hurries. We stuck with the run well and I think PJ interception for TD kept us going conservative in the 2nd half to keep us mistake free. Plus playing on the road in a loud environment we just overall played conservative aside from the Hill pass early in the game.

Playing with the lead the entire 2nd half is going to limit passing yards. They took what the defense gave them and possessed the ball especially well in the 2nd half.

Kamara dropping a pass on 3rd down that might have been a foot race to the EZ or the OL missing an edge rusher on a play where Thomas was open didn't help Drew's stat line or the play where Smith was tackled and no pass interference call
if you hit those 3 plays alone the stat line would have looked a lot different.

Turn down the TV and turn up the big 870? Lol

I have a feeling we will be seeing more of this. It looks like SP wants to move towards a ball control offense that keeps the defense on the sidelines. As soon as we get a comfortable lead, they go into cruise control to chew up the clock.

Ha. I can actually get 870 over here, decent enough at night, but I rarely have the volume up for games now.

why would drew put up any kind of numbers at all in the second half when we had two turnovers that essentially took the place of possessions and then had a 14 point lead which allowed us to kill the game from the mid 3rd quarter on

I believe not having Ginn also contributed to taking the underneath gimme's.
Love him or hate him, the dude can stretch the field quickly, even if only used as a decoy to draw safety help.

We need to trade for DeSean Jackson...not having a deep threat has been noticeable the last two games.

Seems like our new philosophy on the road is ball control and no unnecessary risks that lead to sacks and turnovers. That’s killed us historically on the road so I like the new approach
