So you are saying there are no medicines for rare diseases? Interesting theory

Have you taken a look at health care in other countries? I’m almost certain that you don’t know what you are talking about.

This may have been true at one time, but now rights to the drug may have been purchased by Valeant or Turing or someone who raised the price from $200 to $15,000.
I had this happen, fortunately on a much smaller scale. Child had an ear infection, Doc prescribed antibiotic drops. He tells me, "These used to cost $10, but now you'll pay $100 thanks to the new owner".

Start an ethical, not for profit pharmaceutical company and let me know how it goes.
It's terrible, I know, but what's the alternative?
I am not arguing ethics at all, I'm arguing from a business perspective...how many people out there have the type of cancer that their drug is affective against and out of that small group of people how many can afford it?
Off the bat, they've already alienated perspective customers based on price and not need...just don't see the point.

False. The reason why we pay so much is a lack of govt intervention.
How do they have your brain so twisted on this issue that you believe the opposite of reality?

Since this appears to be a matter of life and death, your aunt should retain a competent, aggressive attorney to contest the coverage decision.

We spend more per capita than any other first world country and we don't have anywhere near the best health care
Would Britain or Canada throw down $15,000 a month for everyone of their citizens that needed it? Do they get the medicine for cheaper there? Genuinely curious.

These pharmaceutical companies stand to lose a lot of money if a cure is out there
Think about how much they charge for drugs that keep it at bay and make people feel awful.
Now imagine what they would charge for a cure.

I’m not big into conspiracies but I’m not one hundred percent sure that their isn’t a cure. These pharmaceutical companies stand to lose a lot of money if a cure is out there...

Ummmm, are you seriously saying the healthcare industry lacks govt intervention?
It is by an order of magnitude the most regulated industry on the planet. Like 40% of Americans get their health insurance through the government

The probable thing is neither of you know what the frick your talking about and making a decision on this issue based on which party your affiliated with.

But WHY is it 15k?
Someone else is paying for it. There is no market, so costs go out of control. Throwing the government in the mix makes it even worse.
This guy gets it!

Sometimes. It depends, they're equivalent of the FDA has different standards so in could be cheaper to develop a drug, but it's also probably been tested less.

1. Their govts don’t accept bribes from pharma companies in order to keep price ceilings non existent.
2. Their govts negotiate exponentially cheaper prices for their citizenry
We pay a shitload more. This is monopoly, not a normal market so we can’t treat it like one. All these companies make an arm and a leg off Americans and our govt does nothing cause they’re paid to do nothing.
A monopolist will charge whatever the hell they want up to and until govt intervention. In such cases it’s necessary.

I know economics. And I know pharma is the biggest donor to American politicians. They’re getting something for their money and it’s exactly the conditions they want.
It’s pretty simple.

I agree our Healthcare system is jacked, especially prices, but which country with socialized medicine would pay $15,000/month for medication for a citizen?
