False.

Do you believe teacher pay is fair? I realize that not working in the classroom for 1/4 of the year is one factor why its paid low.
No, the pay is shite and far from fair. My wife is a teacher and my mom is a retired teacher. They are paid once a month and it's a measly salary. Teachers spend a ton of time doing work after hours both at home and on weekends. Their pay averages out to about minimum wage. Not saying they should be paid like doctors but education should be valued every bit as much as healthcare and they deserve to be paid A LOT more than they are.
State is constantly cutting funding for public education and they point the finger at teachers when their kids' scores are subpar. My wife pays at least $1000 a year out of pocket to provide things for her class that the school board used to but doesn't anymore due to budget cuts. Also, most parents having kids these days are too young and immature to have had kids in the first place, don't do any parenting at home and aren't willing to work with their own kids. When their kids have problems in school guess where they point the finger....teachers.
It's an overly stressful job that is significantly underpaid but my wife deals with the BS because she genuinely loves working with children, being part of their development, and watching them progress.

In a lot of ways, it sucks. Unsupportive administration, unruly children, and lots of government overreach.

Is it a choice just like other professions? You could always go back to school to get another degree that pays better.
It is, and for many it's a poor choice. I've had teachers who were born to teach a subject, and I've had teachers that are just collecting a paycheck. Regardless of why students go into teaching, sometimes I don't think they're prepared for the reality of what they will face in the classroom. They end up disillusioned and miserable.

Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't. Teacher salaries in MS are quite low. The cost of living in MS is pretty low too, but I can go across to Alabama and make more money with a comparable cost of living.
Generally I think teachers deserve to make more money than they do and should be respected more than they are. Part of the problem with teacher salaries is most people scoff at the idea of all the paid vacation time they get, but ultimately this is not the fault of the teacher.

I'm a teacher/coach; I'll take a stab at your questions.
Most employees complain about their jobs. I've learned that you can't major in the minors. I enjoy my job, but there are frustrating parts just like every job in the world.
I can't answer that. Got my undergrad in Accounting and then a Master's in Sport Administration.
It's a choice that I'm glad that I made. I started off coaching in the college ranks, but wanted to get married and start a family. With the time that being a college coach required and the minimal pay, I decided to get into high coaching and teaching. I have loved the majority of my time doing it, and would not change a thing. I love being in the classroom as much as I love coaching my team. And I am just as hard and demanding on my students as I am with my players.
There is always room for improvement.

They get into it thinking they will be changing the world. When that doesn't happen, they start bitching

I always say the same thing.
If you don’t like the pay, nobody made you be a teacher. You chose the profession.

1. Low pay
2. Unruly kids
3. Bureaucratic red tape
4. Nonsense curriculum requirements
5. Annoying parents
6. Lots of additional work after hours (grading papers, after school programs, etc) that aren’t compensated for.
They have great perks like outstanding benefits and lots of time off, but it’s not a job that’s for everyone.

Most careers probably seem better than they really are when we're about 19 years old and choosing them.
I'm sure some choose this path because they want to influence and work with kids. I have to admire that trait in them, even if that desire left them many years ago. I've never been that noble.
Most careers are harder than they look, but many get easier as you progress. If they're still in the classroom after 25 years, they're working almost as hard as when they started, and no doubt, fed up with the lack of discipline, bullshite bureaucracy and standardized testing.
Then again, most of would be fed up with our job if we didn't "progress" into other aspects of the industry.
They deserve to be able to complain, just like everyone else. But in the end, we all make our own decisions.
On a different note, you never hear them complain about that guaranteed early lifetime retirement stuff though that I'm convinced will be the death all of our American governments.

First off, my wife and I teach a and we make $150,000 combined in a year and work 190 days. We are very happy with our pay but we have both found positions that don’t require us to do much work at home or over the summer. Next, as you’ve probably guessed, we don’t live in Louisiana so I can’t speak for systems there, but if you think teachers only work during school hours, then you’re crazy. The good ones, which would include most of the teachers I work with, put in countless hours at home, even during the summer. I wouldn’t teach if I had to put in the hours most of my coworkers put in.
As for pics of my wife, this board couldn’t handle her. ??

95% of teachers are paid fairly or overpaid.
There are a few who are top notch and are underpaid.
Government entanglement and teachers unions prevent true merit based criteria for compensation.
There are a lot of teachers in my wife's family. They all complain about not being paid enough. Hell, most teachers I've known do. I tend to keep my mouth shut. Haha.

I love being a teacher.
I knew what the pay was when I decided to be a teacher so I can't complain.
