So they are making the movie with actual trained lions? That’s going to be sick!

Very surprised that Aladdin is coming out just a coupe of months before the live action The Lion King.

Lion King is my all time favorite animated movie. The Jungle Book is probably #2, and they did a good job with it,but I can't see the Lion King being that good. I mean there is no human interaction. So you're just getting a cgi version instead of animation, not really that exciting.

All Robin Williams had to do was give it another three years. He would have been cast as the Genie in the live action remake.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, so I don’t think so.

I don't care what they do as long as I get a NC-17 Little Mermaid with Golden Penis architecture

For everyone knocking OP, they aired the trailer for the first time during TNF last night and he posted about it right after and several of us that watched it live were discussing it.

Doubt there was even a link to provide at that point

Is Dinsey’s ultimate plan to do live action remakes of all their classics? All we’re waiting on at this point is Bambi, Little Mermaid, Snow White, Pinocchio, and Fantasia

When you think about it, it's one hell of a racket they created. Take mostly old fairy tales or old stories that have passed into being copyright free and then make huge animated features out of them. Years later, re-adapt your own animated version into a live action.

It's like printing money.

They should have gotten Sinbad to play the genie to troll the f&%k out of everyone who remembers the allegedly non-existent "Shazam" movie from the 90's which most people remember starring Sinbad as a genie.

Or, they could have gotten Shaq to reprise his roll as Kazaam.

This. Honestly, for this reason, I have refused to watch any of their live-action re-makes. It's nothing but a blatant cash grab.

They've been good though

I get the point you're making, but they still had to make the movies good. Even the animated movies, they still had to make them good.

Should've gone for the R rating, brought back Gilbert Godfried as Iago, and had the parrot tell his version of "The Aristocrats".

I think it has more to do with my disgust and dissatisfaction with the shear volume of remakes and retreads coming out of Hollywood over the last few years in general. I don't want to reward them for being unoriginal, so I have pretty much refused to watch most of them. The ones I did see were largely mediocre or completely unsatisfying. The only "remake" that has been any good (that I've seen) was "The Muppets" and the "Jump Street" movies, but that had more to do with the fact that those were really parodies that were poking fun at reboots, nostalgia, and sequels.

When Disney puts out original content, I tend to support it, and they've had some seriously good movies these last 10 years (Zootopia, Up!, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Moana). In fact, their catalog is so deep that even their less good movies by comparison (Brave, Wall-E, Frozen) are all still pretty fantastic.

I’m not sure why live action remakes of all of my childhood movies were needed.

Just leave it alone. But in true Disney fashion, let’s take something good, frick it up and shove it down everyone’s throats.

Hot take: Live-action Jungle Book is better than the animated version

The live action versions of The Jungle Book and Cinderella were actually good. Beauty and the Beast, minus the feminist spin on Belle, was enjoyable too. Maleficent was hot garbage. They took one of Disney's most iconic villains and totally rewrote her story, making her a heroic figure.

I'm looking forward to Dumbo and The Lion King. I may steer clear of Aladdin for the sole reason that I absolutely cannot stomach Will Smith in anything.
