And also show me how it is that customers are paying for the service. Don't be shy
Advertisers pay for your personal information, target us, we buy their products which covers the price of advertising.
The user always pays, just not directly
Advertisers wouldn't be buying mined data if it were not profitable.
Your search history determines the links you see in the future. It's all a psychological war to promote consumerism.

Well i know all of that already. I thought you were going to show me how an antitrust case cab be built against a search engine directly. I was really curious especially since it's not the only one

Hey, stupid, the search engine is the aspect under consideration considering we are talking about censorship of results. If you can't prove that the monetary aspect of their business is guilty of giving an unfair advantage to themselves over others then you don't have much of a case.
But I would love for you to show me how I am wrong

are you drunk? You asked how it's not free to the consumer.
Now if there's collusion (as there's appears to be in the memo) then you're damned right there's an anti trust case waiting to happen.

Google was fined by the EU last year for steering people from Google to its affiliated services versus say a Yelp!.
You knew that, right?

Disregarding the other aspects of this (legality, anti trust issues, etc. - for which there are some valid and interesting arguments/discussion), the most telling thing to me in all this stuff are the number of supposed "liberal"/"progressive" individuals who are willing to out themselves as being outright giddy at the notion of being able to control and limit the free-flow of information and ideas.
I mean, look how many people here alone think it is just perfectly awesome that these previously self-declared open forums for all ideas are now doing all this sort of manipulation and censorship.

Wonder how they feel about net neutrality?

Great question.....considering these companies are the ones who wrote the legislation for net neutrality, what do you think?
These guys are playing the crony capitalism game to a T. They want more government regulation. They want government access to the internet backbones and through lobbyist and cronies, that will give THEM all the power to control and filter the internet as they see fit.
Net Neutrality is anything but what it claims to be. It was a trojan horse bill from the onset but nobody cared to actually read the details. They just went by the name of it and assumed the rest.

Annnnndddd now they aren't getting the same treatment here. Why? Why would a government, stacked with Republicans, not go after Google for hurting them so much?

Google was just pushed out of the Pentagon bid. There is a reason.
Not only that, they are going after them and more. What do you think the hearings were about?
