This problem has plagued U.S. cities for longer than the last ten years, try closer to forty years. It becomes a much BIGGER problem, at least in the media and the leftish groups, during Republican administrations, then when a Democrat wins, we hear next to nothing about homelessness.

I despise the ones who are at the Poydras exit, and when you tell them to not wash your windows, yet they ignore you and do it anyway and expect you to pay them when you told them not to do it. And as a result, they have hissy fits and make mean little faces at you. Homeless people are the worst. Without a doubt.

In facilities for people with mental issues. Those cost money so they got put on the street. Now local municipalities have to deal with them out of their budget.

Who made these decisions? Can you lay out how this played out?

Paulson and bush

they ran the economy into the ground. The grand old party fought tooth and nail against jump starting the economy.

The market doubled under Obama.

we should gather them up and dump them off in a Blue state.

i would help pay the bus fare if they could be made to stay on the bus until they get to california and dropped off there. same goes for all illegals as well

Most of them were on the funny farm.

What changed in society, such that this is deemed okay and acceptable, to have people camping in tents all over downtown areas throughout the country?

Jindal and others cut mental health spending.

I'm not talking about the idiot yankee snobs who want to grow a beard and do urban camping. Truly homeless people, the vast majority of them are so mentally ill that they have no ability to hold down a job or do anything functional.

it started with the feds closing federally funded facilities in the 80s I think, that in turn over the years collapsed the state facilities.

So there is a nomadic, fricked in the head herd of people that move around the country.

Anytime a politician anywhere tries to do "something", the courts step in and block it. Courts all across the fruited plain have said that the homeless have a right to be on a public facility.

But I can't pitch a tent and sleep in it in a freaking national park without paying a fee and getting a permit.

That is some solid anecdotal evidence.

Claim you are homeless and give the ACLU a call. You'll be sleeping free in no time!!

Metairie is much more spread out and doesn't have all of the elevated interstates to live under. There is a reason most homeless live in densely populated areas. There is also a homeless shelter right there under the interstate which is one reason they congregate there.

It also doesn't help that some people are too lazy to work and looking for free handouts. The people at Poydras are actually homeless but you have a LOT of others that are not but can make a decent living tax free plus on gov benefits by begging because idiots give them money.

ETA: For truly homeless people, I have no issues giving food to them as I pass.
