"I want to keep him healthy," Orgeron said Monday after he noted how he thinks Ensminger "wants to (have Burrow run) a lot more."

The Tigers have played three games since Burrow said he would refuse to slide, saying to do so was "not in my DNA."

Ensminger wants to run Burrow more

Burrow ran for a first and then took it to the sideline on one play.

The dude is slowly learning.

The hit where he fumbled was legit. We probably should avoid RB leads on QB runs up the middle.

That's the key - Burrow having a good feel for it.

I'd say a QB on a designed run, or RPO, i.e. non-scramble under duress, is less likely to sustain injury than taking a hit on a pass.

Yes, he will get hit on the run play. But it's somewhat under his control. I'd rather take 10 hits under control than 1 as a sitting duck.

Makes me nervous as hell every time he takes off.

I think it depends on who we're playing. Ole Piss has a weak defense so he ran it down their throats. He probably won't run as much on Georgia and Bama.

me too. Those first couple of games he looked like a frosh DL trying to run a scoop and score. Did not look like a natural finisher AND his angles were poor (bad estimate of his/opp speed).

The runs in the OM game looked much more fluid, natural, and were more productive.

Again, it helps the offense function. There's no Fournette or Guice or to go back further Faulk on this team.

quote:

Burrow twice ran on third down for gains of 15 and 14 yards, both times keeping alive drives that resulted in a pair of touchdowns during the Tigers' run to a 28-3 lead.

If helps to win, then I'm all for it. If it helps to avoid taking the foot off the pedal because of certain defensive looks, then I'm all for it as well. It's working and helps to make the offense more fluid and versatile.

I agree with Coach O on this one. We have to keep Burrow healthy. We don't need him running the RPO. He will get enough hits on broken plays and scrambles. Burrow is starting to prove that he can make the throws. I see the coaches gaining more confidence in him each and every game. It also helps that our WRs are beastly.

We need to run him. Just the threat of it opens up other things for the offense. Just have to pick our spots and not overdo it.

Do you see how hard our schedule is? If we want to win it all, we have to take risks and we have to go all out. We can't hold anything back. Yeah he might get injured but maybe we lose a game cuz were putting a restriction on our offense.

After the hits he took last week and popping up to say, “good hit” it doesn’t nearly bother me as much as it did during Miami when we didn’t know what he was made of. Kid likes to get hit and stare MF’s down after. That has to be disheartening to a DB or linebacker when a qb asks if that’s all you got

If anything he'll probably run more on UGA and Alabama. Rushing with our RBs has been mediocre at best this year. If we're going to keep them honest, we'll need to run Burrow.

It would be pretty bad if we lost burrow to injury, but at this point, we're 5-0 and have everything to play for. If it improves our chances to win games, its worth the risk.

I think it was smart to run him a lot in that game. Now that he is a threat, teams will have to account for him and it will present openings for other playmakers.

Yeah I was about to say the same thing. It was the right game to cut him loose vs a smaller, weaker D. Now every DC is having to gameplan for the Burrow runs and we will need those plays to beat GA and Bama. Burrow said it himself that getting hit standing in the pocket is worse than getting hit as a runner.

Now he still needs to be smart about it because to lose him would be disaster, but watching him get crushed by a defender launching at him while standing in the pocket worries me more.
